Used as an external boot drive for an old Mac and it's like a new machine!
Paired with a 'Sabrent Thunderbolt 3 to M.2 NVMe SSD tool-free enclosure' as a new boot drive for a 2017 27in iMac. I've been really struggling with my Fusion Drive iMac as a 4K video editor and it's been getting worse and worse with each OS update. Premiere Pro was super unstable, some plugins just make it crash, it's been really difficult. Not to mention crawlingly-slow render times. My machine has 64gb of ram, an 8gb graphics card and is quad core, so not a lot I can do there. I looked at external graphics cards as a possible solution but they don't seem to add much. I was looking at aed20k+ to replace with an Apple Studio and monitor when I came across an article where a guy described using a Thunderbolt 3 ssd as a boot drive. With a cost of aed1k it seemed worth a try. The drive and enclosure arrived the same day I ordered them. I bought a copy of Carbon Copy Cloner (don't use Time Machine for a clean copy, just don't) for $40 and straight away could see how incredibly fast this drive is. My entire 1TB hard drive copied in about 10 mins! Really smooth and fast. Then I just went to system preferences / startup disk, waited a few minutes until it found the new drive (remember to re-name the same as the original boot drive, in my case Macintosh HD) and selected it. Reset and waited to see what happened. The initial start-up from the black screen / white apple logo feels the same. Then - boom. All of the initial startup apps appeared in the top menu at once. Before they would slowly appear one-by-one as the machine started up. The various apps that were opened before restart all did their checks and I was ready to go. First stop - Premiere Pro! The difference is incredible. A 4 minute 4K video with effects, adjustment layers etc rendered really quickly (maybe 4 minutes?). The best thing - I can scrub through all of the footage, in real time, with ZERO lag. At full resolution. I have effectively got a new computer for aed1k, not to mention an extra 1tb storage. Plus, in future when drives are cheaper I can just upgrade to a bigger drive if I want to by swapping out from the enclosure. Brilliant. After all of the hours and hours of articles about how to speed up my machine and trying different things, I can't believe that all it was all along was the awful fusion drive at the heart of it. It's such a fast, simple solution that is going to transform my workflow and give my machine years more service. I'm so happy and had to share this solution, I hope it helps others out there with the same issue.

Very fast delivery , Also very fast I used an ssd benchmark app
This Sabrent NVME SSD is very fast, it is on par with the Samsung 860 EVO and EVO plus. Used and SSDbenchmark program. I installed it on my ACER Spin 3 , It does not heat much. in comparison to my previous NVME.

Very good transfer rates for an external SSD. Average is above 2000/sec. Just be sure to use a compatable case and cable.
