OK book, nothing great in my opinion.
The writing didn't really capture my attention. Nothing against the author but the sports portions of the book didn't interest me that much. However did learn a lot about John Lindsay and his mayoral trials, tribulations and successes. MAYBE he

I lived in NYC /Westchester / Nassau County during this time. The book brought back memories and gave me a better understanding of that era as well as my life I found the book easy to read as well as entertaining. The author gets to the point of each topic. I found the book humorous. Most of all, what I thought was going on with NYC wasn't what was really going on. Things weren't what I thought they were. Ia a sense this book is a catharsis A must read !

It was fun for awhile
Having lived my “wonder years” at that time, the book hits a chord concerning my youth. Well written and an easy read, it intertwines a few stories of what made ny great in 69. Worth the time

even though I was a teenager during this time and lived through it, I do not remember alot of what went on during the early sixties. very informative and entertaining. I am a yankee fan but never a jets or ny giant fan.

New York Sports and Politics in late 60's
"Fun City" was a great book about New York in the late 60's. The book threads through the Championship seasons of the Jets, Mets and Knicks as well as the mayorship of John Lindsay. Highly recommended

I was a very young child, but I remember women everywhere going crazy over Joe Namath. I guess this book brought back much of my youth.

Lindsay + De Blasio = No Fun
I barely survived the Lindsay years in NYC. It is grimly amusing to realize how much like Lindsay the current incompetent mayor De Blasio is. (Talk about history repeating itself.) Lindsay was the first to pander to rioting minorities and devalue the police. Still, the obviously liberal author bends over backwards to make Lindsay seem like a good mayor. The truth is that Lindsay (Like DeBlasio) never had majority support and for a very good reason. He made living in NYC no fun at all. That said, if you are a NYC history junkie you'll enjoy this rehash of the civic battles yesteryear. I'd forgotten the amazing character - Mike Quill. And I'd forgotten that the demonstrably inept Lindsay dared to consider a run for president. The sports history recounted here is much the best part of the book. The author does an excellent job of explaining the fall of the Yankees and the rise of the Mets and the arrival of Broadway Joe Namath. So... this book is not for the general reader but for those who like the "inside baseball' of baseball, football and city hall.
