Review: Fun book for learning important relaxation skills - What a great little book! In my role as a counselor, I have used it several times with kids so far to help them use their knowledge or interest in cats to help them learn and practice de-escalation skills. Well-worded text, cute drawings, and a few summary pages at the back to possibly post on the wall as a reminder for kids to use their new skills. Recommended! Review: Five Stars - Great book for kids to learn how to de-stress.

This book is great for cat lovers who need help developing some coping skills. My five year old loves cats and he thought this book was great. We practiced all the things the book suggests as we read it, such as breathing mindfully and stretching like a cat. This book helps to reinforce ideas that we're trying to teach him.

Great title - but not quite what I expected
As a psychologist who works with children, I'm often looking for books and games that can be used in child therapy. I purchased the book because it looked like a practical and creative way to teach children some relaxation skills. It turns out to be not as instructive as I was imagining. I was expecting suggestions about specific movements that cats make that children can imitate to help them relax. I guess I was expecting some yoga-type poses or specific stretches. Instead there are more abstract suggestions, such as being assertive or playful (with sketches of cats behaving in these ways). The book is shorter than I expected and I was hoping for colorful pictures, as bright colors often catch children's attention. The line drawings are quite lovely but they're in a very muted brownish color. It's soothing but not quite what I was expecting based on the colorful book cover (which I found to be very appealing). I think I can find some ways to use it in my work, especially with children who are fond of cats, so I'll hang on to it but I can only give it 3 1/2 stars..

Fun, creative book - wise and simple
This is a great book for kids and adults. It goes beyond many of the usual stress management techniques with an emphasis on self-esteem and standing up for yourself. Children have so much stress these days. This simple, easy-to-read book gets right to the heart of ways to help the children we love. I have a copy to read for myself and my 7-year-old daughter. I have bought copies for the library for people (and families) with cancer and chronic illnesses where I work - high stress situations. I also recommend it in a stress management class I teach at a local hospital for kids. Parents and kids alike are drawn to its message.

but I love what cats know
I am not really a cat lover, but I love what cats know. It is plainly expressed here what cats know regarding self-care. I use it particularly with my younger clients, but it is beneficial for anyone, including myself, to remember to be more like a cat.

Not for everyone
(EDIT) Since a couple of people feel the need to have a go at me for giving a sincere and objective opinion on this book, I feel the need to point out that, years after writing this review the book still only has five reviews. Four of them gave five stars. And then someone who doesn't know the author wrote a review. Be glad it was two stars. (End of Edit) I read this book in about five minutes. So did my ten year old son. We got practically nothing from it. It is basically a series of analogies linking cat and human behaviour. As we don't much like cats it was off to a bad start. Also many of the analogies were stretched to breaking point and my son found hardly anything that he could apply in real life situations. My son hasn't got a good word to say about it, but as I am a bit older I can see that there may be many people who could get something good from this book.
