This SALT-3050 meter has made maintaining my saltwater pool much easier. Finally, an easy to use accurate salinity meter. First things first... get the calibration fluid. The meter was very close to calibrated right out of the box. The calibration fluid is set to 3000 ppm. The meter read 2930 ppm. Pretty close, but in less than 1 minute I had it zeroed in on 3000. I first used Aqua Check salt test strips in an attempt to verify the salt readings on my Hayward salt/chlorine generator for my pool. I have found those strips not to be even close to accurate. The strips told me my pool was at 2650 ppm, while my salt/chlorine generator was saying 3300ppm. I ordered the calibration fluid and found the the Aqua Check strips measured only 2500 ppm in 3000 ppm test fluid. Tossed them in the trash and got this meter. So far, very happy with it.

Let’s start with the obvious it’s expensive. However, it does exactly what is intended test the salt levels in your swimming pool. There is an added benefit to this specific item and that it is already calibrated. This just means that it’s easier to use straight out of the packaging. The packaging itself is pretty cool and that I did not expect it to actually have a synthetic leather cover for the actual device. This is an addition to the actual plastic cap that goes over the prongs. I have been using it in the manner of taking some pool water with a glass about 2 inches and dipping The prongs into the water and giving it a decent swirl. So far, no issues whatsoever on the readings they are very accurate. I have been testing it with test strips and I also have a saltwater meter that runs when the pool is on. I would say if there is a deviation it is less than 250 ppm. I cannot otherwise have any complaints but it is a simple product that does a very simple thing and otherwise no complaints.

I wanted to double check my chlorinator, as my pool supplier said the new salt cell reads high by a lot, and I refilled the pool after a repair, necessitating the addition of 10 bags of salt and other chemicals. The salt range needs to be controlled within a band of several hundred PPM, but you don't need fine scientific accuracy, and this little gadget seems to fit the bill. I checked against my house and filtered water for close to 0, then read the pool, which has varied between 3600 and 4100 as I added salt and the chlorinator removed it. I find strips are hard to read (not much contrast, not a crisp line), and the refractometer I bought shrinks the range to a small distance. The digital reading on this device is unambiguous, although one shouldn't assume numbers imply infallibility.

On first use this is works well. Comes calibrated making it easy to use. Time will tell as many of these type meters fail quickly.

The item arrived without any box, but I am not sure if that is how they are all sent or if it was previously used. There is a white speck on the display that I originally thought was a small bit of paint on it, but after trying to clean it I realized it was on the inside of the display. That is already a poor display of quality assurance. See the picture for details. The main problem is the reading is very inaccurate. There is no explanation in the manual as to the difference in 0.5 and 0.7 settings and I could not find anything about it online. Both were far off. The 0.5 registered 2400 ppm and the 0.7 registered 3600 ppm. The app associated with the pool system and individual strips show the ppm is around 3200. The reason for buying this was to have a reusable device without buying test strips all the time so we always have two sources for the salt reading. It was cleaned and calibrated as stated in the manual. I even did this twice to see if the reading would change, but it remained the same. Poor product that I do not recommend as it will be a waste of money. I do not understand how it has so many good reviews considering the inaccuracy and poor quality. I am not willing to try another from this brand and am leaving this review after submitting the return request and dropping off the product for return shipment.

Great salt tester. Easy to calibrate and use.

I have a tester that cost about $120 and have always wanted to compare it with a lower priced tester (other than the readout on my AquaRite display). I had compared it to the tests I had done at the pool store and felt comfortable with it because it was so close that I stopped testing it at the pool store. Then I had some issues with the AquaRite and had put too much salt in the pool. While tracking down the issue, I decided to buy one of these salt testers too. Turns out it is a TDS tester and not a pure salt tester. But many people use TDS testers for salt and it came in 4,350 (yes, our salt is too high) while the other tester rounded off at 4,300. That lines up with the AquaRite so there you have it. By the way, the only thing that failed 100% of the time was the test strips I have so I will stick with the electronic testers.

Doesn’t work properly ….took it into a spa outlet and they tested it and it does not read accurately

Buyer beware you paying 65$ for a cheap TDS (total dissolve meter) NOT and not a salinity tester NaCL. for sur it will give reading but TDS measure ALL element so reading completely inaccurate.
