No moving parts
I work on a mass mailing machine. Paper dust builds up in an analog counter and it freezes up. This one doesn't have any problems with that.

Better directions would make this a better prduct
ordering, immediate availability, and delivery were fine. The package has one small piece oc paper that shows various ways in which electrical connections could be made, but moderate amount of imagination is needed. There is one piece of metal with multiple holes which requires long, thoughtful contemplation to figure out how it fits in the installation process. The opinion among those that answered my question is that this is a great product.

Best part was that I'd lined it up by eye ...
This product only includes the main components. Note too that this is an infared beam and sensor, so you won't be able to line up the sensor and the reflector except by eye (the beam is invisible). Used for a 'people counter' at a library to replace an older unit that failed.Added a steel project box to hold the counter, a 1/8 inch steel angle bracket length to mount the reflector on a door jamb so that it would not move; cord grip for the power cord where it passes into the box; 50' of 3 conductor 22 awg cable for the run from the project box to the sensor; a small plastic junction box within which I spliced the cable to the sensor near where the sensor was mounted; and a three wire mic jack and plug to connect the sensor cable to the project box. All told spent about $80 and a fair amount of labor (mounting the sensor/reflector, cutting the project box, running the cable. Best part was that I'd lined it up by eye and it picked up the signal the first time it was powered up so I didn't need to shim either the reflector or the sensor. Soldered all connections.

Didn't Last Long
This worked great for about a year and a half, then broke. I would prefer to pay a little more for something that could last 10 years.

Handles heat in intense work environment
This is an excellent device for keeping accurate counts on production equipment. I work in the forging industry and even with intense heat nearly 2 feet from this device it continues to work. Very satisfied with this product.

Started a small fire.
We had issues with accuracy from day 1, but yesterday the unit caught on fire. Someone bumped into the mechanism, immediately, there was an audible "pop" and a small fire started. It was easily extinguished and caused no additional damage beyond the item itself, but we will not be purchasing another of these counters.
