Excellent design book
This book is exactly what I was looking for. Has good information on the aesthetics of furniture design including use of the golden ratio (phi) for establish pleasing proportions. Cover the process from the drawing board to making models and mock ups and finally consruction. Has a very good article on how to construct a chair that will stand up to abuse. Help with design, engineering and construction of any type of furniture.

Nice articles about woodworking with good techniques and advices. Not a project plans book, however it has great articles on how to develop your own approach to common needs on woodworking.

Design and (crucially) engineering
This is the woodworking book I refer back to the most. No matter whether I'm making a fancy cherry table with drawers on the ends to go behind my sofa, or using two-by pine to knock together cheapo beds for my kids, this book gives me the *engineering* concepts necessary make it solid. I don't always go the extra "fine woodworking" mile (cf pine kid beds), but I always try to incorporate as many of the subtle engineering details that this book teaches, regardless of the project.

Rates 5 Stars If You Don't Have Other Taunton Press Design Books
The articles in this book, drawn from Fine Woodworking Magazine, are uniformly excellent and grouped by category in a thoughtful progression. With 36 articles, covering the gamut from concept, to styles, techniques, design, and layout it's a good value, too. However 14 of the articles appeared in another Taunton book on design published a few years earlier and 40% overlap is ridiculous.

Good book for the beginner
A good book that covers a lot of areas. It's breadth does mean that it does only skim over some topics. One thing to note is that this book does not cover joinery technique. Otherwise this is an excellent starting point for someone with an interest in furniture making and joinery.
