vivid, real writing
this was a great read. I have heard the story of Adam and Eve since I was a child, but Belli's writing brought it alive and made me rethink many assumptions.

A New Favorite, Infinity in the Palm of Her Hand, G. Belli
When this book caught my attention I thought it would be another interesting read. It was so much more! The author's discriptions put me in the far-away land she was discribing. Adam, Eve, the snake became immediately alive. I was fascinated. I followed chapter after chapter as though I had no idea how the book would end. Actually, I didn't as it turned out. When I completed my library copy I immediately went to Amazon and ordered three copies--one for me and two for friends. This book is a keeper.

Entertaining but theologically lacking
I found this book to be a real page turner. It was so interesting to read Belli's perspective on what happened in the garden. One critique I will give the novel is that the author does not use scripture well in communicating the character of God. She makes God seem cold and distant, and never clarifies that the reason Adam and Eve may be experiencing Him as such is because of sin. She also allows Satan (the serpent) to seem like the only loving person who is concerned about them, which is so backwards. It doesn't seem like the author studied much scripture beyond those few verses in the single chapter about Adam and Eve eating the fruit. If she had better theology, this could have been a homerun novel like Young's The Shack. However, the story was interesting and nonetheless entertaining, just not incredibly moving.

Great choice for a book club
What was stunning about this book was the philosophical debates - - set to poetry. The imagery was vivid, and the musings were thought-provoking. No matter what your religious beliefs or scientific beliefs, this book will make you think. If you are in a book club, I highly recommend this read...
