My go-to wedding lens
I bought a lens for taking to weddings. You know, when you don't want to be on top of people but still want to fill the frame? Catch them in those more intimate moments - but still have the range on the zoom to widen to a group shot? Pull in enough light that you can get some focus on the subjects, but keep the background soft and out of focus? If I had the money, I would be looking for a lens that could open out to F2 or so, to get some better bokeh, but at this price point I found this lens most acceptable. And to be honest, at a recent ceremony I only changed lens once during the entire day for a brief prime lens moment with the bride-to-be before putting this one back on. It focusses very fast, silent, manual zoom feels firm without being sticky. It's also not too heavy to leave on the camera all day. It has nice geometry all the way through the zoom range. Really a very nice lens. Coupled with a soft fill flash from a Canon 430EX ii, I have some pictures I am really pleased with, and will give the happy couple some moments to look back on.
