As always Elayne hit it out of the park with this informative book for beginner piercers and piercing enthusiasts! I especially love the cultural notes and information about the origins of the piercings. I'm so glad she wrote this updated revision with accurate, current information!

This is a great book for anybody that wants to learn more about being on both the receiving and giving side of piercings. Very informational and great for people like myself who are doing their research on becoming a professional piercer.

I have this version, and the new version that Miss Elayne Angel wrote. She is definitely one of the pioneers of body piercing, and as a body piercer, this is a fantastic reference guide. No, it will not teach you how to pierce as you have to apprentice and learn your craft over time.It will however help you out if you want to learn about specific sizes of jewelry, types of jewelry, placement, proper jewelry for specific anatomy, proper techniques, proper terminology, proper safety, piercing trends (I dislike that term but only way to describe), piercing history, complete references, being a piercee, and so much more. it’s something that you should definitely have in your arsenal. I carried my first copy around with me for three years and always found something new every time I opened it. The title says it all. If you are a piercer by trade and you have not read this book or don’t have a copy around somewhere, BUY IT NOW. There is no reason not to have this book in our business. Elayne Angel is a class act, and we are so lucky to have her share her infinite knowledge with us. If you are new school and you don’t like actual books, get a digital copy. The addition of Jef Saunders is fabulous in the new version. It doesn’t get any clearer or better than this book.

This is a great book to start with if you looking to becoming a piercer or if you want to grasp the knowledge of where the culture came from. Very informative on different anatomy and history behind the vast cultures that piercing came from. Would recommend to anyone looking to starting to do their apprenticeship.

Elaine Angel is a celebrity in the piercing community. This has essentially been used as an intro textbook in several of the apprenticeships that I’ve observed. I’m glad that she’s also updated the book over the years. If you’re a baby piercer, interested in getting into piercing, or never had a traditional apprenticeship give this a read.

I highly recommend this book to anyone considering a piercing, working in the piercing industry, or in the medical profession. I bought this book to learn about piercings and aftercare from a reputable source, and I am so glad that I did. I now understand so much more about piercing, aftercare, and why certain piercings work with certain anatomy. I had no idea there was so much to it.I expected dry documentary style instructions, but I became engrossed in the book. The historical account of the piercing industry in Southern California and Elayne Angel’s part in it brought me into a different and intriguing world. I was shocked and outraged by the way genital piercing was criminalized and considered deviant sexuality even in recent times. It gave me pause to think about how society makes assumptions about pierced individuals.I loved that throughout the book Elayne Angels is a complete professional, but her personality shines through. It is clear that she is a bold and kind person with an amazing way of being considerate to everyone. You can see it when she describes how she conducts her piercing appointment and in the small things she does to make people of any group feel special. She calls young people “individuals” instead of “minors”. She renamed a piercing to make a trans person feel more at ease and comfortable with their body. Ms. Angel even considers the environmental impact of the piercing industry.Overall this was an amazing book that shares knowledge and a new perspective in a professional way.

Most comprehensive piercing book I've come across. Amazing.

This book was worth every single cent i put into it. The author has a fun and easy to read writing style and an incredibly great knowledge on what she is writing about. As a piercing apprentice this helped me a lot and got me deeper into the process and General topic of piercing. I would absolutely reccommend buying this book!

I’ve been researching this book and the art of piercing for a while before deciding to finally buy it. Elayne goes into depth about how many specific piercings are meant to be performed and the process of sterilisation and technical parts of piercing.The history taught is beautifully written and composed, and I adore the line drawn between queerness and the history of body modification. It also brings light to indigenous practices and the movement created by white folx centred around those.All in all, this is a great book anyone who enjoys piercings should have. The detailed diagrams are brilliant to showcase piercing locations.
