Quality above the price
So for a tenner you don't expect much but honestly this is a great microphone that lets you hear stuff clearly tho if it's too windy you'll still hear the conversation with a little wind noise

You need this for decent sound.
For a cheap item it does a wonderful job. The Akaso Brave 8 I have records wonderful video above and below the waterline. Sadly, the performance of the integral mic is appalling. Sound playback on the camera is useless and even a quality TV and sound system only raised it to 'acceptable'. This little external mic from Akaso has changed all that. Still not great through the camera but recognisable but through TV and audio, great improvement. Well priced too.

Significant improvement over onboard mic
Purchased this as I found the onboard microphone for the Brave 8 a little underwhelming and I wanted to record some Vlog-like videos while on a long trip in Sri Lanka. The audio quality from the mic is far superior to the onboard and for the little money extra, it's a no-brainer

Buyers beware : Incorrect/Incompatible with brave plus 6
I ordered this with the AKASO brave 6 plus action camera, it is not compatible. Even though the microphone packaging clearly reads brave 6 plus/ brave 7 external microphone they ARE NOT compatible. The brave 6 plus requires a microphone that has a USB Type-C tip not a micro USB. BUYERS BEWARE: Barcode/serial Stickers are placed on top of previous stickers on both of the AKASO items I have bought. I am also returning my AKASO camera as the void sticker was already unpeeled and the camera was marked/scuffed as though it had already been used. I watched youtube unboxing videos to see exactly how my camera should be packaged and mine appears to be a returns item, the fact there are at least 2 other barcode stickers under the top one that reads NEW ITEM is a red flag. Its a shame because I had high hopes for this, but for this company to send me out an incompatible microphone on top of what appears to be a returned/refurbished action camera is in my view, taking the p1$$.

It's ok
I had this for a month, but I soon realised I needed a better camera, so got the GoPro Hero 12 Bkack, which is much better. Having said that, the picture quality isn't too bad, & image stability again, ok ish, nothing like the GoPro, but my biggest issue was the sound, as I like to vlog on my adventures, this was a nightmare. Yes you can get round this with the external mic, which I bought & it definitely imoroved the sound, but I also go paddleboarding, & it's not waterproof with the mic in. So it got me started, well actually it's taken me down a huge rabbit hole, as I've now got a slowly but steadily building YouTube channel, as well as a DJI drone too. So for all my faults, thus camera started me on a whole new journey, from just having adventures, to now making movies of my adventures!

So far so good.
Not used it yet as only just set up but arrived as promised. Camera looks very good quality and great attachments. Feels very well made and cannot wait to try it. Will review more when used a bit.

Gd for what it is

Great price, essential for Brave 7.
Essential addition to the Brave 7 where the built in microphone is poor, due to water proofing membrane. Obviously using an external mic means you can't get the camera wet at the same time. Would be better if the clip rotated to allow more flexible attachment but not major issue.

In my opinion, use this external mic or not the sound doesn't change or it doesn't make it better.

Initial thoughts: All I have to say is WOW. Six-foot cable, connects via USB-C, and it has an amazingly flexible braided cord. The cable is a bit fatter than most lavalier mics I’ve used in the past, but that can be expected because of the braided sheathe. It has a standard alligator clip to clip it to your shirt or jacket or whatever. This would be the only point of failure that I would be concerned about as it appears that the clip is molded around the mic itself and might not be able to be replaced should the plastic fail. Use: Hooks in well and fairly solid. I hooked it into the camera while it was strapped to the side view mirror and rolled the window up, slightly pinching the cord and it stayed connected. The audio quality is markedly improved and the wind noise reduction is well worth the price tag. It’s a microphone that drastically improves the audio quality in a great action camera. I sincerely recommend spending the money, especially if you want to put the camera in a windy environment and run audio to a non-windy place.
