Kira's Animal Rescue (American Girl® Girl of the Year™)

Book that inspires and educates!
Another fantastic book. My daughter loved it and learned so much about wild animal rescue in Australia. Now her dolls all have an animal rescue center set up in her room and she’s been researching animal rescue centers. It really helped to spark her imagination and interest in science. We stared watching Izzy’s Koala world that is explained in the back of the book and it is really cute and I formative m love the many spotlights on real kids making a difference for wildlife in the back of the book. Kira is a caring and helpful girl, a good role model. My daughter said she wished there was a book 3. As for the reviews about the same sex couple. My daughter has been raised to love and respect all people. We have amazing friends who are like family to her that married someone of the same sex. She honestly didn’t even blink twice at this topic in the book and it wasn’t until I saw the review in here that I knew it was in there. To her that is completely fine and normal. Kudos to American Girl for embracing all kinds of relationships and showing the caring side of all people.

Culture and kindness in this new AG book
Kira learns more about the Australian culture, climate change and animal survival. Also truth and honesty are ultimately exhibited. Great book and cute illustrations.

Warning this book is inappropriate for young girls!
I purchased this book for my 12 year old granddaughter and was really upset because of the content. Shame on American Girl for bringing sexual content into fun reading books for young girls. Left a really bad taste for ever purchasing another American Girl product of any kind.

Why lesbians in a children’s book?
So disappointed in these Kira books by American girl. Mature topics, lesbians...

Excellent!
Thank you, American Girl, for addressing climate change! Also the little detail of Kira having lesbian aunts is a bonus for me. Acceptance and not judgement is necessary for our girls. I’m sorry that so many gave this book a lower rating because of this.

In response to another review
A child can be taught to "love and respect all people" as a previous reviewer stated but also be taught that homosexuality is a sin as stated in the Bible. To truly love a person isn't to condone or encourage that person in their sin, it is to love that person despite their sin and encourage them to turn toward God. Regardless, American Girl is jumping on the current bandwagon of what sells in society. It's about making money, not protecting young girls' innocence or morality.

LGBT affirming
It isn’t mentioned anywhere in the summary or description so just informing parents so you may decide if you want to purchase the book based on personal convictions.
