Excellent Two-Way Radio
I bought this radio for yard work. It worked with no problem on low power mode around the yard (about an acre or so). We got bored and decided to test the range. I stayed at the house while two friends drove an atv through the neighborhood. They got to the edge of the neighborhood (3.9 miles according to google maps) and I could still clearly hear them on low power. The wind cancellation is also excellent. I had zero clue my friend was going 20+ mph on an ATV/4-Wheeler while he was talking to me. I used Amazon basics rechargeable batteries instead of the included battery packs and I had excellent battery life. We used them regularly during 8+ hours of yard work and it still showed 3/3 bars of battery life. This was with all the extra features turned on (vibracall, weather alerts, etc.). The emergency alert feature is a nice touch. Thankfully we didn’t need to use it, but we did test it and there is no way we would miss the emergency alert in case someone got hurt and needed immediate attention. Volume of radios is excellent. On full volume you could hear an incoming transmission while driving a zero turn mower (vibracall also helps with this). I cannot speak to the weatherproofing as I have not used them in poor weather, but it does seem to be a nice feature. Overall I am very happy with these radios, and would highly recommend them. They definitely live up to the Motorola name. I currently have 4 of these radios (Motorola talkabout T475), and plan to buy more.

Very Impressed by the quality.
I bought these so the family could stay in touch at Lake Nantahala in NC. There is no cell service at the lake. We kept one in the house and one in the boat and they worked like a charm. I used the high power option of 2 watts and we stayed in touch. We did get out of range when we explored the southern portion of the lake and river. Remember these units are UHF and primarily line of sight transmission. Mountains will interfere with the signal. If you go to lake Nantahala you will need a good set of walkie talkies. These are easy to use, sound great, and the batteries lasted all day. I used the rechargeable batteries and bought an extra pair.

Cost effective but not completely reliable communication tool
I REALLY like these and want to love them. I have several sets of these and find them and absolute necessity on the boat. We use them when docking, anchoring, and when taking the dingy to shore for provisioning or shore activity. They are light and will float if paired to a flotation device. They do work to about a half mile to a mile (1-2 KM) and are very clear. The reason this is not a 5 star rating is we have lost 2 that were damaged when they fell into water. One let water in through the charging port and the other let water in through the battery panel. Overall I will continue to use these as they are very cost effective, extremely easy to use (my 5 year old uses it) and eliminate the need for a cellular signal when your out on a boat. We also use them when backing in our RV into tight sites and on camping trips to maintain contact while hiking and biking. These are a very low cost necessity I always take with me on trips.

quality
Having owned numerous 2-way radios over the years, I can say truthfully this BRAND is the best. On this particular model I like the lanyard and the on/off switch. My first radio was in interior Alaska where the cold is hard on batteries. That means keep them next to your body when not actually in use. Now I am in steep mtns. and deep canyons and good ole Motorola comes thru load. Hint: always carry extra batteries.

Like the function, hate the battery life - doesn't hold charge after ~2 years!
I've had prior models of Talkabouts, and it's always the same thing - batteries stop holding/taking charge after a few years of use. I got these for hunting, and others in my deer camp have same or similar models Talkabouts, and report the same issue. So they get used a couple of times a year. I don't store them drained - they are charged. Always a fresh charge before the trip. Just when I needed to use it, the battery was drained. Last year I just assumed that we drained the battery from use, but no, it clearly wasn't holding charge, in the "off" condition, mind you. Meanwhile, I have cheap made in China flashlights, cordless vacuum and other devices like that, and they remain full of juice. I forgot a headlamp in my hunting backpack for a year, it was nice and full when I found it. Range is okay, it sort of works in the woods within a mile, depending on terrain, beyond that it gets staticky and you can't hear. All the claims of "22 miles" or whatever are obviously puffery.

Great price for the pair and charging cradle
So far so good. They look new other then the stickers on the bottom for labeling and then having no OEM packaging. One battery was mostly charged while the other needed a few hours to fully charge. They stayed 3 bars of power after being on standby and light testing for over 8 hours so the units and batteries all seem to work well. I was happy surprised they came with the charging cradle. Wish it didn't use the old style USB plug but with the cradle it doesn't matter much. I'll adjust my review if needed after I get actual use out of them. Mostly I'm in hiking groups where I'll use them. I'm expecting them to do better than the cheap ones I've borrowed from people but assume they won't be as nice as the expensive Rockie Talkie. The open box price made these half the cost of just one Rockie Talkie. It is not clear the actual power these use. Other Motorola ones do not use the full allowed power so I assume these also do not. They should be good enough though and use more power and better sound than the cheap ones. If that's not the case I'll lower my review.

The radios seem pretty good and they should be for the price. By law they are limited to 2 watts power so the claimed 35 mile range might work from the top of a mountain down into a valley. In reality you are good for about 1 mile on flat ground without too much brush or hills in the way. The main reason I picked the Motorola was the fact you can use AAA batteries when the rechargeble battery goes dead. Great feature when out in the bush far from any power source. I also bought a pair of Baofeng 888 radios for $40 that use the same frequencies but are only 1/2 watt output. The Motorola radios are slightly clearer reception, slightly longer range and have a NOAA and channel scan.
