Whatever Happened to the "Paper Rex" Man and Other Stories of Cleveland's Near West Side Paperback – March 28, 2002

I was able to identify with many of the essays in this book. They really resonated with me. The sad part is that the Near West Side has been practically razed by the freeway that cuts through it. This book brought back the real West Side that I remembered. I am glad that I don't live there any more so my memories aren't tarnished.

I grew up on the west side of Cleveland and this book has provided a real blast from the past. It has so many stories and photos from things I remember from my younger days. However, he was called the "paper-rags man" because he collected old newspapers and rags. I can only assume that some people misheard him as he made his way through the neighborhoods, calling out "Paper... rags" and thinking he was saying "rex" (which makes no sense) instead of "rags". No offense intended, but he was the "paper rags" man.

Bought for a friend . He loved it !!!

The book is probably mainly of interest to those who grew up on the West Side of Cleveland, Ohio; it's a collection of anecdotal stories and memories, with lots of black and white period photos (mid-Twentieth Century), most of which are unfortunately not captioned. Still, it's a great read if you knew Cleveland!

Great Book I haven't seen in years. Growing up in Cleveland it's a must for anyone who calls or called Cleveland Home.

Brought back memories from my childhood. interesting history of the way things were.

I had a hard time finding this book for my mom. When she was younger, she had a paper rex man and he was listed in the book. She is so happy with that. Thanks for the memories and history.

My family is from Cleveland OH. My Mother and my Uncle tell of the "Paper Rex" (Paper and Rags) man that would come by their house every week. Wonderful pictures and history of Cleveland.
