It is the inspiring upbeat true story of how one Danish island went to 100% renewable energy in just ten years, told in a child-friendly fashion (with sidebars for older kids and adults who want to know more). If Samso was able to do it, so can we! It's a great book for families, and a great gift for the favorite child or grandchild in your life. It also works well as a read-aloud in a school classroom, library story-time, or church children's group. There's not a breath of partisan politics... it's just a heartwarming story about ordinary people like you and I.)

This book really catalogs the progression from once energy dependent island to an energy independent island. Great for younger students (4th grade to 6th grade). It has definitions in the margins that really lead to more questions that even your student can investigate further if he/she is interested.

I purchased this book to read to my 6th grade students to introduce a unit in Science on Renewable Energy. It is very interesting being based on a real community that made wind energy work for them. I am glad I bought this and shared it with my students.

I teach 4th grade and I used this book to supplement our unit on Energy and to launch our "We Can Change the World" Activity. It's the story of the Danish island of Samsø and how they moved toward energy independence through the use of renewable resources. Our class is preparing to travel to Denmark in April and I purchased three copies of this book for our Danish host school.
