Village People: Gold

The Village People are one of the most iconic/infamous groups from the disco era. Amazing to think the gay stereotypes so clearly identifiable today were missed by the vast majority of the public back in the late 70s. Gay culture was deep underground unlike today. The gay sexual references were lost on most listeners. The studio group recorded some of the catchiest disco pop records of all time. This 3 disc set has to be the best value and most comprehensive collection of the their recordings that includes all the hits from across their career featuring tracks from every album they released. Disc 3 comprises 12 inch mixes of their biggest hits. Excellent.

I can't comment on the item personally as I bought this for my mum (she received an Amazon voucher as a present but isn't online so gave it to me, along with a list of bands she wanted CDs for).So I bought this, and she was happy with it.

Original record was "borrowed " by a relative, never to be returned so this was a replacement to be played when I need cheering up, for the price very good value.

There's a feeling among some that the Village People are just for the gay scene; not true! This is good time disco and party music, that is if you get the pictures of Donald Trump dancing (?) to Y.M.C.A. and Macho Man out of your mind. My only complaints are that In Hollywood is the short version which leaves out the best vocal parts and there are rather too many megamixes included. One would be enough. The transfer to CD is adequate. Altogether an enjoyable selection.

I am a fan of Village People since the vinyl days and later bought some of their output on cd as well. Not only the price but the comprehensiveness of this sampler is the best deal I could imagine. Only disappointment: no notes on the band or the chart figures of the singles. And i just don`t understand why the titles are not in historical order. To see the development of a musician it is really helpful to have them in chronological order. Else, a very good collection.

And LP is a gold colour - a nice touch!

I used to be a DJ and always loved The Village People and my partner bought me this as a present to cheer me up......this CD is a set of three-excellent value for money and the sound quality is great. Few I don't know so well but it is great to sing along to in the car trying not to simultaneously start making the moves to the YMCA dance!!! Five stars!!

Nice thought to have all hits on one cd but their hit are put across the three cds so many tracks not good so find your self forwarding the not so good track.
