They are approximately 7 inches each and every third is a repeat. So there are 3 planks and it keeps repeating and yes, you have to match or the wood grain won't match. Hope this helps!

I matched the gray line between the boards. The next piece would match the grain from the last piece I put up. Very easy to put up. I love it.
