Nabisco, Famous Chocolate Wafers, 9oz Container (Pack of 4)

my mom used these cookies to make the best ice box cake in the world ... she would make it at Christmas since I was 16 and I'm now 68 ... she taught me how to make it and I recently taught 2 of my granddaughters and 1 of my daughter-in-laws to make it ... I would make it every time we would have company and everyone raved about it ... one of my uncles who would never eat dessert decided to try it after everyone was oohing and awing - he ate 4 pieces!I've made it 2 ways:1) lay out wax paper about 4 inches longer than box ... pour 1 pint of heavy whipping cream in a bowl and whip until you can stand a spoon in it ... then take 1 cookie and spread the whipped cream over it (not too thick or not too thin) and after you do 2 cookies, put them together and stand on their side on top of the wax paper starting 2 inches away from one side ... then take another cookie and add whipped cream and add to cookies already on wax paper ... keep doing this until all cookies are done ... then take whipping cream and spread all over the cookies and on each end ... pull up one side of the wax paper and roll the cake so you can keep adding whipped cream over entire roll ... then roll the wax paper so entire cake is covered ... twist both ends on wax paper and put in frig on a cookie sheet to keep the roll from breaking ... keep in frig for at least 8 hours ... when serving, cut on an angle ... enjoy2). take a 9x11 cake pan (or similar size) whip 4 pints of heavy whipping cream to consistency of above ... (no wax paper needed for this one) spread whipped cream on bottom of pan ... lay cookies over this ... add more whipped cream ... add cut pieces of banana over and also add crushed nuts (of your choice) over that and layer 4 times in order of above ... put in frig for at least 8 hours ... enjoy

These wafers were for a traditional Christmas dessert in our family and my sister and I decided it was worth $10 a package to relive this fabulous dessert and memory. These wafers interlaced with whipped cream make what we called either Yule Log or Icebbox cake depending on the season when we made it. It is shocking to me that profit casued the new owners of Nabisco to discontinue these cookies, but whomever is making them now is still doing a great job, though we think that the wafers have reduced in soze over the years. These are also great to crush for pie crust.

We should have taken pictures when they arrived because we ordered Pepperidge Farm Milano cookies they were in a plastic bucket and the Nabisco cookies were smashed in a compression fit against this case of cookies and so every cookie and every box was broken. We loved the Bisco cookies but it’s definitely something that should not have been shipped or it could have been shipped in better condition whoever decided to pack them with something else ruined our cookies on our purchase we are not happy and we will not order again.We’re still trying to find ways to use the cookies but because we were going to make an icebox cake which required hundreds of little flat cookies not millions of little cookie pieces we were not able to do the recipe that we wanted to do i.e. the picture on the box is of an icebox cake which requires whole cookies literally we could not find a cookie that was not broken we could not be more dissatisfied and again I blame shipping and the handler. I originally bought these chocolate wafers to use for crust in some dessert recipes. I wound up just eating them from the box. I like them very much; they are just plain chocolate wafer cookies, not very sweet, which is perfect for my taste. I just received my second order of them. Online ordering was easy, my package was delivered as expected and in excellent condition. I like that the package had stickers indicating 'FRAGILE!" Not one cookie was broken. Hard to find these old fashion thin chocolate wafers. The 75 years + desert favorite is a quick make of buttering whipping cream on tho the wafers and stacking them in a log. Then you frost the whole thing and decorate with choclate bits, almonds, cherries and etc. Very yummy.. The 4-6 hours in the refrigerator allows the whipped cream to soak into wafers and it becomes a tasty treat of a cake like substance. It is wonderful and it goes down the hatch very fast when set out on the table.

Fresh, but the product is brittle so each wafer breaks in 2 or 3 pieces. I made the cake on the box which my grandmother used to make and my family loves it but I takes a great deal of time with broken wafers. A little bit expensive but worth it.

My whole family - including me - used to love the dessert log made with these wafers and whipped cream. I haven't been able to find these wafers at the supermarket for years, so I was delighted to be able to order them through Amazon. I served this dessert at a recent party, thrilling every single guest ... even those who watch their weight and never eat dessert. In fact, the party became truly memorable as my guests began sharing all sorts of fond childhood memories - triggered by the Old Fashioned Refrigerator Roll (the recipe is printed on the box). This is not a dessert you would serve often, but for special occasions, it's easy, unusual (at least these days), tasty, and completely dependent on using THESE chocolate wafers. Yum!
