Good but too easy to beat
I liked the graphics and the horse knowledge was good however the game is way too easy to beat. I beat it within two hours and I feel like the game developers suddenly gave up on the story line and finished it weakly.

A Balanced Game
I try to research a game before I buy it, especially expensive games and horse games. I tried desperately with this game and couldn't find anything. Curiosity got the better of me and I bought it. Horse games usually fall into two categories: Realistic and Unrealistic with several subcategories: children, simple/complicated gameplay, competition-based, and story/no story. Unfortunately very good horse games are few and far between.I Love Horses is a little difficult to place within these categories. I'll try the best I can.1. It is story-based with the typical horse game story (must win competition to save farm)2. The graphics of the horse is far better than that of the people in the game. The horse looks like a cross between the My Horse and Me series and the Horsez series. It's fairly realistic, but not the most realistic I've seen in a game.3. There are three types of competitions: jumping, dressage, and cross country. The cross-country is not a typical cross-country, but just a race amongst the player and computer-generated riders; the landscape does have "natural" jumps in it, so I guess that counts as cross-countryNow for some pros vs. cons:Pros:+Despite the unbalanced graphics quality, the horse and surrounding areas are beautiful with butterflies, dust, or water kicked up when you ride over a certain terrain.+Very extensive horse customization. Even though you only get one and you can't name him yourself, you can edit him at any time if you become bored your current selection.+The competitions play well and the courses are very nice.+Overall easy controls. The only frustration I faced was with mild responsiveness issues in dressage, however that may be due to the age of my Wii/Wiimote.+There are other activities including photography, care, breeding, and other side missions.+The competitions combined with the customization provides decent replay value.Cons:-The speech is very slow. Painfully slow with horrible accents. It would probably be better to mute it when anyone's talking and just read the subtitles.-It's a very short game. I finished it under 5 hours.-The graphics overall are just okay. As I said earlier, the horse is of a better quality than the people which look very blocky.-Breeding is very unrewarding. Instead of being able to raise a foal and later ride it (as in Horsez) you are only able to create a foal, feed it, and then watch it walk around.-The story is weak and, as mentioned above, a replica of seemingly every story-based horse game.-The horse tack is mostly flashy and childish. There are some that are relatively plain and I stuck with those. So why a 4 and not lower? Honestly I'd put it at a 3.5, but I'll round up because good horse games are hard to find. And it is a good game. Not a great game, but it has better competitions than Horsez, better controls than My Horse and Me, and more varied horse customization than most games.Overall, I Love Horses takes the good parts of other horse games without adding much else. I would recommend it for 8-14 years because with it being so short older ages will likely become bored with it quickly and the controls are easy enough for a younger crowd.Note: All other games mentioned are, in my opinion, of equal value. They too have their faults, but also have rewarding aspects. For a very good horse game on the Wii, I would first recommend Horse Life Adventures sold at a similar price on Amazon.

ok but not great
Hey all horse and video game lovers out there! To start off with, there were no reviews for this game when I purchased it, but because I love any horse related video game, I couldn't resist this one. Let me just say now that it is not worth the $20 I spent--I advise you to wait for this game to go on sale or find a used one before purchasing it...For some reason this game, like several others I've encountered, is a cheap knock-off of another game--in this case, My Horse and Me 2: Riding for Gold. I'm not sure if this is because of different releases in other countries or what...I haven't researched the reasons. But the character is a copy of that used in My Horse and Me 2, except more poorly animated here. In addition, the voices dubbed in are quiet and slow, as if either the speakers or listeners are unfamiliar with english. The game story line is simple and very short. I played a total of three times (no more than 4 hours) before hitting the end of the story. The only reason I gave this game the 2 stars that I did is because the horse, while rather poorly animated, is fun to design--there are quite a few choices for colors and styles, and the motion graphics are nice enough. The scenery is also quite pretty and fairly large considering how small the actual story is.The best I can say for this game is that it's semi-fun, but if you're looking for something with nicer graphics or a better storyline, check out the Horse Life, My Horse and Me, and Petz Horsez games.
