Excellent product!
I am very picky about the taste of packaged wild caught Salmon. This product was a pleasant surprise! I bought it for an off the grid camping trip in the Arizona desert and it exceeded my expectations. I wanted clean food that did not need refrigeration. For meal preparation in my 12V lunch box heater, I added one pack of salmon with liquid, 1/2 package of cooked organic white rice, 1/4 package of TruRoots vegetable medley and pesto sauce. It was delicious!! I will definitely buy this again, it was superb!!

I Will Stick With Sockeye Fillets
Review of Vital Choice Wild Alaskan Sockeye Salmon, Skinless/Boneless, 6 oz PouchesReceived with a Best By date 51 months from date of receipt.Upon opening each of the first two packages I noted that some skin was present and the salmon in each was one solid congealed mass. There was a small amount of oil in the bottom of the package which may simply have been some salmon oil that had been pressed out during storage. The salmon did break apart easily.Tried a forkful before using in some salmon cakes and was not overly impressed. Part of this is the treatment of sockeye salmon as tuna but it also just didn’t seem to meet expectations. The salmon cakes were unimpressive.Overall, this is not something that I would get again.

really sockeye?
I was frustrated. It tastes perfect for tuna. Tuna? Those roll around. So, I don't recommend those who know the taste of real sockeye except those who want very expensive tuna.

VitalChoice Wild Alaskan Sockeye Salmon 3 oz Pouches 6 ct
A product of the USA, each 3 ounce pouch contains nothing but boneless and skinless wild sockeye salmon and sea salt. The pieces are flatter than what is shown on the sleeve illustration but otherwise it arrived as expected. The flavor is quite good and the fact that the salmon is certified sustainable and wild caught in Alaskan waters are all positives. The fish is vacuum sealed in a foil BPA-free pouch and is ready to eat. The pouch has 150 calories, 7 grams fat (2 grams saturated) and there is no carbohydrates, fiber or sugar. There are a whopping 20 grams of protein, but there are 30 mg cholesterol and 330mg sodium which is 14 percent of daily value.A 3 ounce serving contains 1100mg of Omega 3 fatty acids broken down into 430mg EPA and 590mg DHA. The salmon is compact, neat and easy to transport but it can also be used at home in salads, pasta dishes, etc. Refrigerate after opening. Shelf-stable the Best By date is 57 months in the future but dates will vary. Excellent.

Tasty Canned Salmon That's Bagged - Great for Quick Lunch/Dinner
The Vital Choice Wild Alaskan Sockeye Salmon is a good choice if you're looking for a quick healthy meal. Like canned salmon, the Vital Choice salmon comes out of the container looking like an unappetizing lump. After fluffing with a fork, the salmon is ready to eat or use in your favorite recipes. It is boneless and skinless and lightly salted so you don't really need to do much with it. We tested this out as an alternative to tuna salad as well as heated fried with some mirin, soy sauce, and green onions. The salmon was firm and tasty, and while it's definitely fishier than fresh salmon, it's still really good for a canned fish. The packages are lightweight and perfectly packaged for camping or for keeping in your emergency food stash, and because they are not canned, they are really easy to open. Overall, this is a good quality canned fish that's worth considering.

Tastes Good, Versatile & Nutritious, Compressed Pieces Like Tuna-Looks Unappetizing Before Prepared
Vital Choice Wild Alaskan Sockeye Salmon is fully cooked and comes in sealed pouches rather than cans. I received the 6 oz size. These aren’t whole pieces of fish and instead are pieces compressed into a flat form in liquid just like tuna that comes in pouches. I do find the look of this salmon rather unappetizing when still in a flat chunk. But once I flake it with a fork and prepare it then it doesn’t look bad. And the salmon does taste good to me. I think it tastes fairly similar to tuna that comes in cans or pouches.I haven’t come across any bones or skin, though there are dark areas that I assume are from parts next to the skin. This salmon is versatile and can be prepared and eaten much like tuna in pouches or cans. I’ve mixed it with lemon and dressing or with a touch of Mayo, Dijon mustard and spices and have eaten it on crackers or on bread like a sandwich. I even used half a package (3 oz) in lieu of lox on a bagel with cream cheese, onions, tomato and capers, and it tasted really good and was hearty and filling. This salmon is super convenient to have on hand, and it’s low in calories, high in protein and loaded with nutritious omegas that my diet is lacking as I just don’t shop or eat as well as I did pre-Covid. This salmon has added salt and isn’t a low sodium food, but it’s not terribly high with 330 mg for half the package. The packages are good for travel or to keep at work. Mine has a long shelf life as I received the packages in 2/2021 and they’re good until 10/2025. I like this salmon, but do find the look of it off putting and would prefer it to be bigger pieces. 4 stars.
