Ultralight, water resistant, rugged *with built in structure*
First of all, let me say that I was really bummed when this showed up and it turns out there is stiff foam board sewn into the back and a pocket for a laptop or something like that. I'm sure there are many use cases where that would be exactly what you want, but for me it very much was NOT. I wanted a backpack with NO structure built in so that it would conform to the shape of whatever you put inside it. Upon closer review, I can see that I should have known that's what it would have if I had looked closer, but it wasn't obvious to me from the description or main picture, so I was surprised. No stars off for my lack of due diligence, but just be aware that it is like a normal backpack in regard to structure.Having said that, I love the waterproof and reinforced zippers and seams. I haven't tested it by quickly dunking it in water or anything like that, but it appears that it would be pretty water resistant (not water proof). The fabric is ultra-light, but thicker and more durable looking and feeling than other nylon bags I've gotten in the past. I think this one could take a fair amount of abuse before it wore out.If only the pad wasn't sewn in, it would be perfect for what I wanted it for. As it is, it's still not bad.

Ultralight, but not for me
I got this bag because I was hoping to get a slightly more structured and laptop-friendly equivalent of the 4oz Osprey ultra light stuff sack, and this was the lightest bag on the market. Anyway, I really wanted to like this bag but the straps are too uncomfortable -- extremely high, stiff, and narrow. Also this is my fault but I should have checked the dimensions -- at 19" it is much longer than a normal daypack -- I wanted to buy this to use as a personal item on a plane but it is too large to be a personal item (although it does smush down a little bit so you might be able to get away with it).

Probably only makes sense if light weight is a top priority
This is an interesting backpack. It is definitely lightweight. I'd say that it almost has a "disposable" feel to it. My gut says that this material will rip and the backpack won't last too long but I guess only time will tell. The backing feels like thin cardboard (rather than a more padded backing like most backpacks) and so if you are carrying hard, irregularly shaped items, I think it would not feel good against your back. I'm a bit torn about whether to recommend this backpack. If weight is VERY important to you, than I think this may be worth trying out. I don't think it would be suitable for everyday use as a child's school backpack or a work backpack for adults. Therefore, I think it has limited utility. I also think that the price is probably about $10 too high. For this reason, I'm giving it 3 stars.

Light and tough
For serious hiking you want a pack that puts the weight on your hips, and this one does not do that. That's a design choice, not a defect. For a bag carrying light items for relatively short periods of time, it's light, the elastic helps and it will keep the water off.

Quite odd...
For starters, let me say, this is the lightest backpack I have ever held! They knocked it out of the park with that factor. However, the material is extremely strange. It feels like the material a tent is made of, but has a shiny finish to it. This makes it look and feel extremely cheap. The straps and zippers feel even worse. The zippers honestly feel as though they are going to break zipping it up completely empty. Lastly, there is only 1 organizational type pocket in the entire backpack. Its essentially a sack with a laptop sleeve inside. This will fit my needs, but I wouldn't buy this again. Too many other options out there that are far superior.

Sized for tall wearers.
This is a well-made ‘ultra-light’ simple backpack, exactly as shown. I am short (5’ 1”) and too long against my back. So disappointed. It’s terrific.

Ultra-light pack ready for light use
The GBY backpack is definitely super light compared to the average backpack. The zippers are sturdy and water sealed. It holds a decent amount for being lightweight, I was able to get my 15.6" standard notebook in there with no problems along with two small accessory bags. If you travel light this bag should work well for you, could use a top zip pouch, but the side zip works just as well. Down side? If you want to carry a water bottle, you'll either have to get a sling/carabiner attachment, or leave room inside. The straps are pretty stiff but not uncomfortable, may relax a bit through use.

Lightweight but pricey
Overall, I like this backpack and despite the ultralight material, it feels relatively durable. The interior pocket has enough padding to protect a laptop or tablet from typical bumps and maybe even small drops. However, I don't think the construction quality justifies the cost. This would be a better value at a lower price.
