How do I open the lid?

Carefully - LOL. Seriously, the lid must seal to keep the contents fresh so it is a chore to open. A knife edge (not sharp) helps to get it started and once started, should come up readily.

How can the inside of the dispencer be dried?

by taking it apart and letting gravity do the rest

Can it be used for *whole* flax seed and/or chia seeds? I'd rather not grind them before use.

Hello friends, Sorry to see all the negative reviews for this product. This is one of the best products in my home. My first one lasted ten years...It does need maintenance. Once or twice a year. I make fresh coffee at least once or twice a day....nicer with this unit. While the information says it holds one half pound, it holds much more. But, it does "stress" the dispenser. I will always have this unit in my home. Maintenance is taking it apart, washing it.....letting it dry and re-assembling it. It can do much more. Thank you Amazon!

(2) Questions: Can it be used for -instant coffe? And, -held over your coffee cup?

It would probably work. The only question is whether it will dispense the correct amount of coffee so the taste is to your liking.
