The description says global but also then says europe, australia, north america. does this device have total coverage in south america?

The device works on the Iridium satellite network which covers the whole Earth, so as long as you have a clear view of the sky then, yes, it will work in South America. I had to make use of the SOS function on a trip recently and the experience makes me say buy it. It could save your life.

Does this provide access to marine weather forecast?

Not that I am aware. It provides an area forecast based on your current location or one of your choosing. It’s provided through AerisWeather but fairly basic stuff such as sunrise/sunset, wind direction and force, high and low temps, visibility, precipitation, simple picture forecast in 2hr blocks for next 12 hrs and daily outlook for 4 days

Will this work on the air plane?

The ZOLEO device/service can operate on small airplanes as long as the ZOLEO device is positioned with a clear view of the sky (eg placed closed to a window). Regards The Zoleo Team
