Happy with the purchase and would buy it again.
The Good:The claimed 8 second reading time is for real.Once a reading is made it will either softly beep slowly 10 times then display temp with a nice green backlight with normal temp OR it will softly beep rapidly 10 times then display temp with a red backlight with a temp above 100.4 (farhenheit). It can easily be switched from farhenheit to celsius and will provide results as above only in celsius. The display is large and easy to read with nice backlight. It seems accurate, at the very least consistent, as successive readings have been the same and when I drank cold water to make sure it wasn't stuck the reading was down half a degree. The build quality seems solid. There was one rating that the power button is cheap and had broken but mine looks quite secure. Time will tell.Using it is comfortable and the larger body is easy to hold.Comes with an extra battery. The "Not So Good":An issue for many but it is "Made in China".It does not come with a storage case but it does come in a nice protective box that has room for the instruction manual but it will take up more space in storage.Upon starting the backlight does go out before the "Lo" ready indicator shows which threw me off the first couple uses.

Reasonably accurate, low price
The device is nicely contoured, easy to use and it is quick---a temperature result is posted in 8 seconds. It uses a 2025 battery which is easily user-replaceable compared to other thermometers which use an LR-41, which is quite small an requires in some cases a jeweller's forcep to install in some thermometers. The only thing I'm not thrilled with is the packaging---no sleeve or plastic container was provided to hold the thermometer, so it sits in the bathroom drawer free, until I can find something to safely hold it in. That's the only true negative.

Great thermometer, and some tips for accurate readings
I just got this thermometer, so I immediately compared it to the no name one I've had for years that I probably bought at a drugstore.Pros:1. Fast readings, and reasonably consistent. Takes about 8 seconds usually, but it can vary depending on proper usage. Read below for some tips (from my experience, I'm not a doctor or a nurse!) (by comparison, my old one could take 2 minutes).2. Display is backlit and larger than my old thermometer.3. Uses a CR2032 cell, easier to find in stores than some of the tiny hearing aid batteries others may use, and should last longer. Plus it includes a spare in the package.4. Has a memory feature. Remembers the last 30 readings, so you can easily compare.5. Easy to switch between Fahrenheit and Celsius.Cons:1. No case or slipcover is included, to keep the tip clean (I took 1 star off for this)2. Tip doesn't flex like my old one. It's a bit less comfortable under the tongue, but the faster readings make up for this.3. There's no way to clear the memorized readings. Even taking the battery out didn't clear them.4. Once it beeps, it stops reading, so if you get a low reading, you have to turn it off and on again if you need to keep it in your mouth longer. Some tips for more accurate readings (orally):1. Avoid eating or drinking for 5-10 minutes before taking your temperature. Keep your mouth shut/avoid mouth breathing for a few minutes (at least 2) before taking your temp. Ambient air can affect your mouth temperature.2. Insert the thermometer under the warmest part of your tongue and make sure the silver tip is touching a warm part of your mouth tissue.3. Keep your mouth shut, avoid moving around or talking while taking your temperature.4. Make sure you're in comfortable room temperature and are "temperature balanced"... in other words, if you just came in from the cold outside, or out of a hot shower, wait until your skin is back to room temperature.5. If you get a low reading, keep it in your mouth longer. Note for the thermometer I'm reviewing, it stops reading after it beeps, so if this happens, turn it off and back on while it's still in your mouth, or keep it in your mouth for a minute before turning it on. Wait until the thermometer stops feeling cold in your mouth, and you should get a better reading.
