10 track collection of previously unreleased demos of all songs from the third studio album by PJ Harvey - To Bring You My Love - from 1995. Includes demo versions of the singles `Down By The Water', `C'mon Billy' and `Send His Love To Me'. Audio has been mastered by Jason Mitchell at Loud Mastering under the guidance of longtime PJ Harvey collaborator John Parish. Features brand new artwork with previously unseen photos by Maria Mochnacz. Review: 3 or 4 stars, depending - To Bring You My Love began a string of densely arranged and produced albums for PJ Harvey. So, I was really interested in hearing Polly Harvey's demos. The demo tracks for Dry and Rid of Me were raw, stripped down, and personal. Would we be able to view TBYML in a different light? Joan-Crawford-On-Acid probably doesn't hang out much with farm girls from Yeovil! It turns out that these demos aren't that different from the final versions. They're not as glossy but the core instrumentation and approach are already in place. The most interesting thing is the vocals. All the singing is up front and a lot more immediate and expressive than the studio recordings. If you want to hear Polly shifting characters and moods without all the layers of instruments and effects on the album, this disc is for you. For me, the most interesting track is The Dancer. It has a flamenco influence that was completely removed from the final song. Too bad. I'm going with three stars for most listeners because this set of demos is so close to the finished versions. You have to be interested in fine details to fully enjoy this disc. Committed PJ fans and completists will want this, though. For them (or us, ha), I say four stars.
