Amazing characters with development
Start with Child of Stars and follow the volumes in order as the stories build on one another. To be sure you can always google Thorgal and the Wikipedia has the correct chronological order of the series in English. In regards to the series: Amazing characters with development, great story lines, fantastic plots, and a balanced amalgam of the past and the future all squeezed into what is called Thorgal. The only negative I see is that the series is behind by more than 50% in translation to English, meaning after you get to number 19 your are stuck till the next one comes out which sometimes maybe a year or more; or if you don't have the patience for the English translations learning French is always an option!!

Thorgall is a rare fantasy comics series that is absolutely great for kids ages 9-14
Thorgall is a rare fantasy comics series that is absolutely great for kids ages 9-14. It is sophisticated in terms of narrative storytelling, it is beautifully illustrated, well-paced, with plenty magic and mystery, even some sci-fi for the lovers of ancient aliens’ theories. It also tells its stories with heart and humor tailored for those who are still growing up. There are glimpses of violence, but no obscene sex scenes or outright perversity, as everything is done in rather good taste, at least by the currently unhinged post-“Heavy Metal magazine” standards…The series itself runs into almost thirty volumes, but only the first 21 volumes are done by Van Hamme who is like French national hero and is likely the sole reason this series is great. So, if you are like me- i.e., less interested in pretenders who tried to extend the series past its “original” volumes, those first twenty-one volumes are all you really need. Each volume comprises a somewhat free-standing story, though besides the main protagonist and his immediate family, there are some recurring characters that reappear some volumes later. Thus, towards the end, the whole series assembles into a more coherent narrative where individual stories fit like a mosaic or a jigsaw puzzle.Since such grand comics’ “cycles” meant for kids can be easily counted on one hand (-Tintin and Asterix come to mind here, both targeting much younger clientele), you might as well get all 21 volumes for a pleasurable uninterrupted reading. My younger one who cannot read yet, still loves looking at the pictures of Vikings, swords, fights with monsters, etc. While there has been no “complete” boxed edition in English, it is still relatively easy to assemble the whole run by purchasing separate volumes that were published in English by Cinebook.Highly recommended, especially for those interested in history, fantasy, and graphic artistry of comics.Hope this helps! Cheers!

Excellent (the whole serie)
very good for teenagers. 13 and above, sometime, in the series, there is a naked woman as a god but it is OK, no sex. The theme is well respected, it is a viking saga with the myths behind. Can help children to read real mythology.
