Metallurgic Motta Brown Beechwood Competition Tamper, 58.4 mm

Love this tamper. Wonderful feel on the palm of your hand when you press down a puck. The ring fits the basket real well. Microns would make it tighter, but not sure that's needed. Using a stock Flair 58 basket. Fits it like a glove. ~ Thanks!

I generally like this tamper. It is better than plastic or other cheap options. It is worth looking for a slightly larger tamper (Gaggia Classic Pro is "58mm" but can fit this instead.) It creates a better coffee bed.If possible, I would recommend purchasing a self-leveling tamper as well.

Very hefty, feels great in the hand.Polish and quality of metal seems excellent. Handle portion fits well and very nicely constructed.Truly enjoyable to use.

With my other true 58.4 diameter tampers, the seal created when tamping is so well-fitted that there is a slight suction of the puck when removing the tamper from the basket. the Motta tamper is not machined precisely and is slightly smaller than the advertised 58.4 diameter - maybe 58.3.

Prior to purchasing this tamper, I was using a generic 58mm tamper I found elsewhere on Amazon. Measuring that tamper had it at probably more like 57.8mm which left a noticeable gap around the edge of a 58mm portafilter. Shots were pulling way to fast and crema was underwhelming. After getting this 58.4mm competition tamper, shot pull time doubled and there is an amazing, thick crema on top of my shots. I had read previously that a 58mm vs 58.4mm wouldn't matter much but I've found that it makes a huge difference. 5 stars.

Its amazing how something so simple can provide so much joy! I am using this with my Gaggia Classic Pro with stock baskets and it fits perfectly into the basket. It has perfect weight, feels great in the hand, and looks fantastic.

Wood feels delicate and the finish is misleading in the photos.

Very nice, precisely made tamper. Being 58.4mm it is a lovely snug fit in a standard 58mm basket and leaves the sides and edges of the basket clean, and the top of the puck perfectly flat.I bought this because the auto tamp feature of my Sage Oracle, while very good, doesn’t get right to the edge of the puck. Apart from more mess, this also caused occasional channelling. Applying a final tidy up with this tamper has completely solved that and produced more consistent results.Highly recommended

This 58.4mm tamper is perfect for the Gaggia Classic Coffee Machine. Excellent weight and performance - the solid wood handle can be unscrewed if needed. Recommended.

Fits the Gaggia filter perfectly. Nicely weighted, and a classy look. What's not to like?
