NO!! It does NOT have a USB C port. I bought it because someone said it did and it does NOt. It has ordinary USB ports but not USB C

I don't have any distortion in sound.Use a good quality aux cable.Used in a Honda civic

can you leave the transmitter plugged in and power it off or is it powered on all the time?

If it's plugged into your cigarette lighter socket, it should go on and off with the ignition. Some cars have a 12v socket that's constantly powered, even when the ignition is switched off
