I use this as one of many products for horse hoof health. Applied to the bottom of the hoof to aid in white line/seedy toe. I remember my grandmother having it as an antiseptic in her medicine cabinet when I was a kid.

This stuff was recommended by my grandma as she used this as a kid. I had never heard of it but figured we would try. It has worked grwT at cleaning cuts. It does dye the area temporary pink/red but you can at least see where you got it and know it’s clean. We will keep this as a staple in the first aid.

I have never seen a more misleading product. Merthiolate is a specific chemical compound that contains mercury. There is not, and could never be, a mercury-free tincture of merthiolate. They tout its long history (since the 1920s) as a household antiseptic, which is true for tincture of merthiolate. But that's not what this is.
