Sheer perfection.
As an underground metal fan since the early 80's I can't believe this band has flown under my extreme metal radar for so long. This album was recommended by another friend who likes Dimmu Borgir and....I'd have to say this album is one of the best marriages between death metal and an orchestra I've ever heard.Outstanding production. How do you produce or mix an album with guitars, bass, drums, vocals, choir as well as a full orchestra?I don't know how they did it but the results are amazing.Beautiful and brutal.Stand out tracks are..Lovecraft's DeathAnnubisCommunionBabel's Gateand my personal favorite Persepolis. One of the best extreme metal albums I've ever heard, period.Perfection from start to finish.Highly recommended.

Worth Having!
This is the first time I ever paid any attention to Septic Flesh. To be honest they aint the best I ever heard but certainly not the worst either. For those of you who may not know anything about them they are theatrical with an orchestrated sound mixed in. They pull it off very nicely. I'm a big fan of Dimmu Borgir so this is worth having. Though they are similar still there is no doubt they are not a copycat of Dimmu Borgir. I like this cd and The Great Mass I got also at the same time. This band is worth checking out for those who like orchestrated black metal.

Super technical and atmospheric
Love the sound, the brutality, the song structure, the symphony backing and the ultra tight playing by everyone in the band. Saw them live and was hooked.

Superb! Superb! Superb!
When a band dissolves and then reunites 4 years later, this is how you announce to your fans, and the world, that you are back and better than ever. Most of the songs on this album are pure perfection and will appease fans of death metal, symphonic black metal, goth, heavy metal, industrial, orchestra, and so on. Each song has many tempo and timing changes to keep them fresh and no chance of becoming boring. When drums are fast they are very fast, when the vocals growl they really growl, but then the music can change to a more melodic, or creepy, symphony, slower guitar, clean vocals, and so on. You just never know what direction the music will go in each song from one moment to the next. I applaud this as the album is not just a boring trek of playing the instruments as fast as you can, nope, there is much, much more to these songs. The album starts out with a heavy track, then slows down a bit with the more melodic "Anubis", only to be followed by the very heavy "Babel's Gate" that, at times, can be compared to Napalm Death. The highlight of the album is easily the lengthy "Persepolis", a grand display of what makes Septicflesh so delicious to my ears. To sum up and keep this simple, if you love heavy music period and do not mind a band that includes many types of instruments, this is a must buy as there are few bands I can think of who do a better job of being both heavy, brutal yet melodic and ever-changing timing and tempos. As the review title simply states, superb, superb, SUPERB! Only complaint is I wish the album was a few minutes longer. Another song, or two, would help and thankfully the Japanese version has an instrumental version of the song "Anubis" that I recommend for those who want a longer version of this album.
