Don't waste your time or money.
This is the second scanner of this type I've returned for a refund that is not fit for purpose. The first started failing after about half an hour of use and failed to pick up or move the film on. The second did the aforementioned action perfectly well, but absolutely nothing was recorded onto any SD card (I tried multiple cards, all formatted and fully functioning, having tested in other devices). To return one defective item might have been forgivable, but two... Do not buy anything from Winait. I certainly won't be doing again.

Does the job well
I have had this for a week and have scanned 5 3" reels and one 7" so far. The process is very straightforward and the results are excellent. The menu is a it confusing as there is no "record" or "scan" option - just "playback" and I have not yet worked out the correct sequence to get things going but this is a minor gripe

It does work
The quality is good - much better than using a projector and camcorder, which invariably gives you dark edges and is a nightmare to focus. The resolution is 1080 short side. It is reassuringly heavy for its size, and appears to be quite well-made. The teeth that engage with the sprockets are reassuringly metal. It is easy enough to use once you work out the film threading pathway and how to position the film underneath 2 notches at the back of the scanning tray. The results are clear, in good focus and evenly lit, and the files self-save when the spool runs out. Make sure you buy the right model for your maximum spool size. It scans frame by frame with a loud clicking noise, so you'll want to locate the machine in a different room, and a 7" reel takes several hours to scan. On the other hand you need to keep an eye on it: it understandably stalled on a film with damaged sprockets, and I had to move it beyond the damaged area manually - fortunately I was at hand when this happened. The bulb it uses must be "cool" as the halted film was not melted by the light which remains on. It autosaved the video when it stalled, so the finished film would need to be put together on computer from more than one mp4. One proviso: "Fast Forward" (by which it means rewind) is tortuously slow, so I opted to rewind longer films on my projector. In summary it's a good purchase if you have a quantity of films, and I can only surmise that the negative reviews must have had some bad luck. There are several videos on Youtube taking you through the initial process - very useful - and apparently these devices are syndicated or re-badged under different names in different parts of the world. If by any chance you're visiting the USA, it appears to be considerably less expensive there, but I didn't want to risk international shipping and potential taxes. I also decided to take out Amazon's extra-special extended warranty as sending it back to China or repair wouldn't be easy.8mm and Super 8 are 18 frames per second, but the "properties" of scanned mp4s are 20 fps. The result does not appear unnaturally speedy. Maybe this is so that when editing you can set the project frame rate at 60fps and hope for no merged frames, but I'm not sure.

how to digitise 8mm film
despite varying quality of film to be digitised I did manage to get an adequate result on most of them

Easy to use and handles 7" reels.
I especially liked the fact that this digitiser can hold 7" (400ft) reels and found it easy to use. The output quality is very good.
