So much better than expected…
…and I expected a lot. I thought it would be a myriad of ER stories, and those were there. What I didn’t expect was the raw and spiritual humanity of this author. This book has changed me. I highly recommend. Than you, Dr. Profeta, for sharing your very personal stories. They are a sea of gold!

Great Read
First of all, I am typically not one for plugging books, this one is different! It is a touching, highly impactful bag of gems reflecting upon all things we as imperfect adults question about life all be it incredibly minute or a big as God. Each chapter is a relative, captivating, insightful look at life's repertoire of pitches. Loaded with a heartfelt, humorous and beautifully honest writing style each chapter pitches an enlightening vignette easy to pick up, put down and reengage at your own pace. Brilliantly, each chapter together is a full game...not just of the author's life, but of the innings of life we all live, experience and question. With rawness and ease, the writer's memoirs will undoubtedly have you snickering and/or verklempt, always creating pause and reflection on your own life milestones or most inane moments. This is truly a telling expose on life's grandiose and most minute experiences and ultimately how they all work together validating our relationship with God.

Good read overall, not great but very good at times.
Good book. Very funny at times. Very engaging at times as well. Short chapters telling stories fly by. Near the end of the middle I found I lost my interest a bit as the stories lacked the humor or emotion that some of the best stories had. A good read overall and it's short. Worth reading and very enjoyable at times.

the best book I ever read by a physician ( and I have read dozens)
If any reader is a fan of “The Chicken Soup for the Soul” series, this book by Emergency Room physician, Louis Profeta, is even better. Over his many years’ experience, Dr. Profeta tells us short stories, brief vignettes of the people he has encountered. The stories are beautifully and humbly told. And with each story, we are gifted with poignant wisdom. This is a book, not just for medical personnel, but for anyone who wishes a soul enriching glimpse into the lives of their fellow humans. I got this book thinking it would be funny (I guess because the title sounds funny to me
I got this book thinking it would be funny (I guess because the title sounds funny to me?). Some stories are funny... and I do definitely like his very matter of fact, no nonsense style. However - the book is actually INCREDIBLY touching, thought provoking, and just a generally 'soul searching' type of read. Which is awesome -just not what I expected (I'm sure that's all on me, but for the random other person out there who also thought it would be a funny book - fyi). I thoroughly enjoyed it. I passed it on to my husband and he is also really enjoying it. Just a really good read that makes you think and at least consider being a more thoughtful human being ;)

Decent read
I don't remember what internet article referred to this book and motivated me to buy it. It's a decent read, and is an exception to other, similar books I've read, in that the author professes and illustrates his religious beliefs and how his medical experiences have reinforced them. Often, I read of physicians regarding themselves as the Almighty instead. This is more a collection of vignettes of his life before and since becoming a physician and how he sees the hand of God in all his experiences than a single, cohesive narrative. The book could use a serious bout of copy-editing/proofreading and it's a bit thin for the price, but those are the only real flaws I could cite.

A must read for all ages.
This is a delightful book, well written, and easy to read, page turner. This author makes light of hardships in life to help you u get through difficult times. I wish I had read this before I had children or elderly parents. I would have done something's totally different. His ease with all ages of people and his love and respect of old people is refreshing. I really liked the part where he said you are going straight to hell if you put a feeding tube in an elderly person. I wish I had known this before I put a tube in daddy. You need to let people die with dignity. We have taken that away from them with all the machines, procedures, etc. to prolong life. I would like to know this doctor and his family!

Not so gentle reminder on what really matters in life.
Nice read. Short chapters, so it was easy to pick up, and put down whenever time permitted. Louis clearly has a firm grip on reality, and the things that really matter in achieving a balanced, happy life. I can't believe so many interesting and unique things happened to him and his extended family and friends! Hopefully more of us take his advice, and place emphasis on what can help us achieve peace, satisfaction, and contentness in our life.

Excellent book!
This book was touching, down-to-earth, profound and extremely funny in some chapters. At times I laughed so hard, I cried. It was interesting to see patients and the health system through the eyes of a doctor. The author is very human.

This is incurably good
I love his style to tell stories and to look at his job as a job without neglecting his patients AND himself.
