With better laces and insoles...
I have been wearing ROPER Men's Gum Sole Shoe's for many years simply because they're comfortable. I've never thought of them as "work shoes", nor did they use to market them as such. The laces that come on the shoes suck because they wear out fairly quickly where you knot/tie them, causing the outer shell/sheathing and inner core strands to seperate and stretch at different rates. I have found that PX/BX military tan boot laces are the only laces that work well and last as long as, or longer, than the shoes. I wear them daily, often on jobs I probably shouldn't, and they hold up fairly well. The shoes themselves always fail in the same spot in my eperience. The upper begins to seperate from the sole around the inner/outer ball of the foot. The shoes are fairly flexible, soft leather, which allows them to bend a lot at the toe/ball area when kneeling, etc. This bending greatly contributes to the shoe failing over time. Gluing them with E6000 works fairly well if the sole and leather are cleaned well before application. I highly recommend getting Dr. Scholl's Work Massaging Gel insoles to replace the insoles that come with the shoes. They make a HUGE difference in the comfort of these shoes. Pictures are of new pair compared to old pair worn daily for around 1 year. With better laces and insoles, these are my favorite all-purpose shoes.

This shoe is so very nice for walks and fit me okay....but
I love the crepe sole and soft leather. I looked at several options and after consideration chose to order this Roper men's gum sticker shoe. Initially it was a bit snug. Now I find it pretty comfy and becoming more so with wear. That said, I am a woman and I think most men with a slightly wider foot and longer toe would find the shoe tight width-wise. Also the sole seems a tiny bit narrower than the shoe. Perhaps it will squish wider with wear. I chose a man's shoe to get a bit taller toe box as I have a twisted toe that needs more room than most. I would buy these again when this pair wears out as it is getting that comfortable and I love the sole material. It is springy enough that I do not miss the arch support. There is a soft insole. It will provide safe winter walks even in a bit of ice and the higher top will provide warmth also. As it stretches a bit there will soon be enough room for some of my handknit lightweight wool socks. I have been wearing these shoes on my 2-3 mile daily walks with no discomfort. Make no mistake, if your foot is not terribly wide these will make you a nice walking shoe.

I should have gone one half size larger
I have been seeking shoes or boots with this type of sole ever since I wore out a pair of boots with natural crude crepe rubber soles, 'way back in the 70's in Chicago. They were great because they gripped well on ice, so I never felt unsteady. This was the closest I could find. I wanted a flat bottom, no heel, and these looked attractive, too. We now live in Tennessee, but we get spells of ice, like today. I usually wear a 10 or 10 1/2 WOMEN's shoe with my orthotics, but with a thick sock, I get size 11 boots. I read that mens' sizes are 2 sizes less, so I chose a 9, which seems tight, but I hope that the leather (suede) will stretch over time. I decided not to exchange them because this weather is when I need them most! I really like the style for wearing with slacks, and they do seem to be the "grippy" gum sole I wanted. So I'm mostly a happy camper.

A Tight Fit...
The quality of this shoe is good. Unlike similar shoes from other sources, these are made of natural suede (leather). My complaint/reservation is with the size. Consider ordering a half or whole size larger than the equivalent US size. Narrow and VERY SNUG...

Comfortable
Comfortable enough for hicking. No traction but thats expected if you look at the bottom of the shoes

Not very duravle
Shoes are very comfortable throughout the work day, great support! Sadly this shoe is not very durable and is not for a ranching environment, could make use as a casual shoe. Mine have started to fall apart at 2 months as a work shoe

Where my foot turns into the shoe was a little tight
Very happy with the product though overall

DOPE boots, but toe box a littttle too pointy
Toe box is prettttty pointy.... more than I’d like. But dope boots either way. The gum sole is amazing. It like... idk these boots have a small obsession that comes with them for sure lol.
