Room on the Broom

I read reviews that the board book was the original version but it’s not! And I bought 3 for gifts. Not the original version :( whyyyy??? Braids and fries don’t add to the rhyming like plait and chips. Also shouldn’t we be exposing our kids to new words & other cultures? It’s not even a foreign language.... Should we stop reading Shakespeare because there are words we don’t use or don’t know off hand? The description of this really needs to be updated to reflect that this is not the original story. Soo bummed.

I am livid!! I cannot believe they changed the words of this classic book!! This addition has been Americanized! Many phrases have been replaced with American terms. I (who am thoroughly American) read the original to my thoroughly American sons over and over again 10 years ago, and they loved it. They had no problem understanding that “ginger“ means redhead or that “plait” means braid. Why does this publisher think we are all so stupid that we can’t follow a few British terms? I will return this copy, which I had purchased for a friend’s baby, and try to buy the original from a British source. I have confidence that my friend’s American baby will be bright enough to follow along.

As much as we love all Julia Donaldson books, Room on the Broom and Stick Man are our favorites! The story is so much fun. A friendly witch starts her travels with one friend, but ends up making several more friends who help her find lost items along the way. She finds room on her broom for all the animals asking for rides, and they repay her kindness in the end.This new board book version is more fun than the edition we borrowed from the library. The library version I'm familiar with seems to have been "Americanized" and some of the changes are a bit of a stretch. But this one seems to be closer to the original. Below are changes between editions (library version first, then new board book edition).-And long ginger hair in a braid down her back.-And long ginger hair which she wore in a plait (plait means braid)-The witch laughed out loud and held on to her hat, But away blew the bow from her braid - just like that!-The witch laughed aloud and held onto her hat, But away blew the bow from her long ginger plait!-"I am a dragon, as mean as can be, And you, witch, look like a good supper to me!"-"I am a dragon, as mean as can be, And I'm planning to have WITCH AND CHIPS for my tea!"-The dragon drew nearer and started to drool. He said, "I won't let you go- do you think I'm a fool?"-The dragon drew nearer and, licking his lips, Said, "Maybe this once I'll have witch without chips."-A nest for the bird and a pool for the frog-A nest for the bird and a shower for the frog

We had borrowed this book from our local library, and my autistic son loved it so much that he wanted me to read it every night. I decided we needed to find him a copy of his own. I saw some reviews that said that some of the lines had been changed. We got the board book and all the lines are correct. If you want a good copy of this book, order the board book, NOT the paperback or hardback!

I seriously love this story. I actually saw it on Netflix first and thought it was so adorable and cute. So when I found out that it was actually a childrens book of course I jumped on my trusty Amazon and ordered one right away.I ordered the board book because I have an 18 month old that just LOVES the sound of paper ripping so the paperback probably not a good idea for a couple more years. Book came undamaged and a perfect size for me to read to my toddler.He loves to point out the kitty and the puppy, and we are working on 'frog' and 'bird'. Such an adorable friendship story! Good for your own children or to give as a gift for a child under the age of 8.This is also the same author as The Gruffalo which is another wonderful story! Both book AND claymation stories recommended. If fact, anything from Julia Donaldson!I paid full price for this item and review it to give other buyers out there more information not listed and whether I would recommended it.

-Arrived in the time amazon said it would arrive and in great condition.-My 2 1/2yr old son LOVES it! I admit that I love it too and enjoy reading it to him. He loves the "whoosh" part. It has improved his vocabulary due to how excited he gets to "read it" and then when I read it to him. It's a really cute book. Netflix has the 26 min video of this book on there and it's cute. It is word for word with the book, I'm happy I came across the 30 movie, that's what made me buy the book and my son loves it.-I even got Room on the Broom apps which are cute. If my son were older he would be able to enjoy it but it's still nice to know that they made the apps educational and fun.

Y cuando aparece un temido dragón, sus amigos los animales, de forma ocurrente saben ayudarla y salvarla de las fauces de la bestiaCuento rimado, como la mayoría de esta autora, tiene un final divertido y una moraleja bonita para los niños.Es un cuento con gran acogida en niños a partir de tres años y que yo dirigía a niños entre cuatro y seis aproximadamente. La acogida en las aulas suele ser positiva.Este formato, tiene buen tamaño para público infantil, es aproximadamente como un folio, eso sí, si compráis la versión de tapas blandas hay que tener algo más de cuidado.Os dejo el video para que veáis el formato.Espero que os ayude la opinión!

I was sent the American version which makes some changes to the wording versus the UK version. For example, instead of talking about “witch and chips” the dragon talks about french fries; it doesn’t flow quite as well. There are quite a few wording changes.The story is lovely, and the video is free on the BBC - but that uses the UK wording.It needs to be clear in the description that this isn’t the UK version.

Se dovessi basarmi solo sul libro, la recensione sarebbe da 5 stelle come per tutti i libri della premiata ditta Donaldson+Scheffer: ormai abbiamo una discreta collezione di libri di questi autori e non ci deludono mai. La trama non è mai banale, il testo in rima è quasi musicale, i disegni sono sempre vivaci e piacevoli. La nostra bimba di 3 anni li adora!TRAMA: mentre vola sulla sua scopa, una strega perde il cappello, la bacchetta e il fiocco; alcuni animali la aiuteranno a ritrovarli in cambio di un giro della scopa.. finché ad un tratto la scopa si rompe e la strega finisce in balia di un drago.. ma i suoi amici animali accorreranno di nuovo in suo aiuto, riuscendo a salvarla!PROBLEMA EDIZIONE: per questi libri esiste una miriade di edizioni diverse tra copertina flessibile o rigida, cartonati, audio libri e chi più ne ha più ne metta. Quello che non mi era mai capitato, comprando come di consueto l'edizione inglese, era che invece dell'originale mi fosse recapitata la versione americana, che non è del tutto uguale: alcuni termini non usati negli USA vengono modificati, talvolta richiedendo di riscrivere intere frasi. Purtroppo su Amazon le due versioni sono a prima vista indistinguibili, perché in entrambi i casi vengono indicati come "lingua inglese".SOLUZIONE: ho prontamente contattato il servizio clienti di Amazon per segnalare la questione. Mi hanno spiegato che non si poteva fare una semplice sostituzione perché questa è prevista solo per richiedere lo stesso identico prodotto. Ho quindi provveduto ad effettuare il reso ed ho fatto un nuovo ordine cambiando versione. Per cercare di identificare correttamente la versione giusta, mi sono basata sull'IBAN (cercando informazioni anche su siti esterni) e sull'editore. Quindi vi consiglio di cercare di verificare prima dell'acquisto se la versione che state comprando è effettivamente quella che desiderate e, in caso di problemi, contattate l'assistenza che saprà prontamente supportarvi![NB. questa è la recensione associata alla versione originale inglese]

When you've a child obsessed with the book and you buy the board one because the paper one you have is so worn from use then the confusion and tantrum that ensues because the words are AMERICAN!IT'S A TALL HAT! I bought this along with 11 other Julia Donaldson Books(All Board Books). I did a lot of research before buying and building my 15 month old daughters first library along with Van Fleet, Eric Carle, Dr Suess etc. At first it was all about pictures then sounds then role play and now its the story in 12-13 months she has grown with these books and loves anything we introduce now. Each book has a 12-14 page story which gives you abundance of opportunity to spend quality time with your little one. Reading is just one of the things you can do with these. They are illustrated so very well with vibrant colours and end to end pictures that you have so much to explore if you introduce reading really young. I have copied some of the illustrations on to a A4 sheet given my daughter to color. Just buy when it says Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler together on a book.
