Great for my 8 year old
My eight year old son started reading these books this year (second grade). They are quick reads, he enjoys them, and thinks it’s cool that you read “backwards.” :)

The boy is hooked!
At my son's elementary school, kids can't wear costumes for Halloween, but they CAN dress up for "storybook character day" on Halloween IF they bring in a book that features their chosen character. My son is obsessed with the Legend of Zelda and wants to dress up as Link. I bought him this book so he could be "legal" in his Link costume at school. I didn't think he would actually read it. I have never been so happy to be so wrong. My eight-year-old devoured this book in less than a week. He has been waking up early to read it before school. He has been reading it before bed. In fact, he has been reading this book more than he has been playing the video games, which is unbelievable considering how hard it usually is to pry that game pad out of his hands. When he's not reading the book, he's re-telling the story to anyone who will listen. Before I ordered, I quickly skimmed the reviews to make sure the content wasn't inappropriate, but I didn't see many comments regarding reading level. So, in case it's helpful to others, my second grader is about a 24 - 28 on the DRA. He is very comfortable reading library books that are marked 3.0 - 3.9 on the Accelerated Reader scale. His teacher sends home scholastic readers for him that are level M. He says this book is easy for him to read independently. Granted, he has played the heck out of most (if not all) of the games, so he does already have a lot of context/exposure to the story. The font is small and all caps, but my child hasn't complained. The theme looks a little dark, but he hasn't been frightened or disturbed.Anyway, I'm back to order the next book in the series. This was one was definitely a hit for my little Zelda fan.

Ocarina of Time: Novelized...with Some Variations
Volume 1 of Akira Himekawa's "The Legend of Zelda" manga adaptation follows the first half of Ocarina of Time. It starts off with a brief description of how and why Link came to the Kokiri Forest (which was not explained in the games) and ends with Link's iconic fight with Dark Link (though, oddly enough, it doesn't even take place in the Water Temple). Volume 2, of course, picks up where Volume 1 left off, and even adds another whole part to the story to show what happened to Link after defeating Ganon (though this is not necessarily considered canon). The artwork in this book is fantastic; the anime-esque visual style is akin to that of the game, so fans will enjoy the eye-candy in this manga. The dialogue works well and paces the story along nicely. The characters are just like their game counterparts, with some exceptions- namely, Link. In the game, Link did not show any particular personality, so it was left up to the player to decide how he acted. Personally, I felt like the Link from this manga was bursting with a little too much cockiness. That being said, Link's manga self should've been a little more low-key, though this may only bother some people. Some hardcore Zelda fans may be disappointed that this book does not completely follow the events in the games. This was most likely done so that everything could be fit into a decently-sized package. It doesn't detract from the overall quality of the book, but it's certainly something to keep in mind. Some details that were not present in the game are actually ones people would welcome (such as the inclusion for the aforementioned scene that explains why Link was raised in Kokiri Forest). Others just don't make sense or contradict what actually happened in the games.Bottom line: Overall, this is still a wonderful read. If you're a Zelda fan, get this. If you're a Zelda *and* manga fan, definitely get this.

Amazing! Not For Fans Only! Everyone Can Enjoy This Book!
Well, First of all I have to say that if you enjoyed The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time, this manga (Comic Book but in the Japanese Style, From Right to Left) is a must have, You will totally like it.The story does not happen exactly like the videogame but you will see that Akira Himekawa (the author) did an excelent job integrating the key elements of the game's story and create a beatiful story. And Remember that this is only the 1st part. I already finished my reading of this one and I already order the Volume 2 The Legend of Zelda, Vol. 2 and Volume 3 The Legend of Zelda, Vol. 3: Majora's Mask and you can be sure that you will want to buy at least the Volume 2.Like I said in my title, this manga is not just for fans, if you have never played The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of time it's ok, you will enjoyed this book too because the story is consistent and you do not necessarily have to play any game in the series to understand it, and maybe you will play some game in the series after reading it.And last Remember, YOU MUST READ FROM RIGHT TO LEFT!!!
