We always had to add effects when using a more expensive studio mic, but this little gem has some tone built in so it sounds great right out of the box! Word of caution, if you drink when you karaoke be careful with the mic. After about 3-5 good drops from 4ft up it goes dead. Still not bad for a cheap mic. I wouldn't use it for recording or live performance, but it is PERFECT for karaoke! If you have rowdy friends, like I do, buy two or three. That way people can swing it by the cord, drop it, and really rock star party hard!
