North American Indian Tribes of the Great Lakes (Men-at-Arms, 467)

Long on Images, Short on Analysis
These "Warrior" volumes by Osprey are what they are: colorful visual delights that are very useful to modelers and re-enacters. However, they are thin on hard information in their "narrative," which tend more along the lines of captions. As I am neither a modeler nor re-enactor, I should have passed on this purchase. (Oh well, maybe I will need a cool Indian warrior graphic someday.) Of my attached images, the first is included in this volume. It is the most well-known image of Tecumseh, but actually the second is supposed to be the best available likeness, though it is not nearly as popular. The lack of color probably works against it. The third image is also from the 19th Century, and depicts his appearance at the Battle of the Thames in October 1813, where he was killed. (Osprey has a volume by that name if interested in further study.)

Good entry level book.
Covers the main tribes since the encounters with whites. Not much on early history.

North American Indian Tribes of the Great Lakes
The content was great. The binding of the book made it very difficult to expose the inner edge of the pages to be able to read the text there.

A classic textbook
I was looking for better time and place chronology. More information about tribal decision making and interaction with the Federal government. The general information about the tribes was very useful.
