Soap left over in the mop, especially from any fabric softener (which simply re-introduces soap into the fabric after it's rinsed out from the primary wash) would be left behind in the barrel, which would then retain water and react with any lubricants you apply. I would NOT wash and reuse anything that is going to touch the internal components.

Q: Will this kit work for the ar-15 5.56nato/ .223 remington platform or do i need to buy the premium kit?

It will work! You can use the 22 caliber cleaning brush to clean the bore. With that being said, there are some parts like your bolt carrier group and your chamber that get very dirty and can be tricky to clean. This happens because the gases released from your shot travel back through the gas tube and settle on your bolt carrier group and chamber. In those gases is carbon. That carbon gets hard and can be tough to clean. So, we make specialized tools to make cleaning the chamber and your bolt carrier group a lot easier. To make cleaning the chamber easier - I recommend that you add the Real Avid .223/5.56 Brush Pack. To make cleaning the bolt carrier group easier – look at The Real Avid .223 Scraper. Buying these isn’t absolutely necessary but they will make cleaning your AR a lot easier.

yes the Jags do have a piercing tip but they are plastic. they also include the slotted type as well
