What Is Found There: Notebooks on Poetry and Politics

Poetry illumines human spirits and inspires action. I'm still browsing, for each essay is rich and thought-provoking. The notebook presents literature and literary criticism as avenues for needed social change, through affirmation of exquisite experience of life in specific areas of America's cultures.

Adrienne Rich doesn't do anything badly. Excellent, powerful writer and poet.

A wonderful introduction to poetry, hers and that of others.

Adrienne Rich writes about poetry (both hers and other people's), politics, and other things that cross her mind. The politics are unsurprising but the beauty of her language carries you along.

This is such a life changing read. So inspiring, full of insights, and beautifully written. There're also a lot of references to fellow poets so that will open up your poetic library to lesser known poets. It's a must read for everyone but especially Americans, as Rich often reflects on what it means to be an Other in America. Whether, you identify as a woman, a PoC, as LGBTQ or as different in any kind of way, this is for you (Rich was Jewish and lesbian). But I believe this is for straight white male and females too if you want to better yourself, the people around you and the country you live in. Rich reminds us that we are political being, that trying to escape that condition is futile, and that poetry has the power that can help us make sense of our position in society in order to change it. After the recent events of Charlotteville, it could not be a more timely read!
