Limited detailed information on ingredients and amount of astaxanthin
Astaxanthin is very much in the health wellness news at the moment. It's reckoned to be the best antioxidant available in a completely natural vegan form. This version of the product has a bovine gelatine capsule, so it is not vegan. However, it is sourced from Haematococcus pluvialis a freshwater species of Chlorophyta, AKA green algae, from the family Haematococcaceae. This species is well known for its high content of the strong antioxidant astaxanthin.I am somewhat confused about how much astaxanthin is in each capsule. The front of the bottle states a high rating of "18mg highest potency", but in the ingredients list it states "natural astaxanthin 5% oil" So, what is it? Astaxanthin is safe and recommended between 4-40mg dose, so 18mg would be reasonable, but I'm not convinced this is what we are getting per capsule. It could just be 5% of the total 18mg capsule. The description should be totally clear and not mix weight values with percentages. Just state what's in it for the non-technical person. The capsules are small, really easy to swallow and if they burst in your mouth, it only tastes of mild sunflower oil. nothing unpleasant. There is a generous 6 months supply at one gel per day so this will give plenty of time for a buildup of the antioxidant to see and feel its benefits, assuming it's not a lower dose than we think. There are many research papers on astaxanthin. Some incredible claims, Astaxanthin is a carotenoid pigment that occurs in trout, microalgae, yeast, and shrimp, among other sea creatures. It’s most commonly found in Pacific salmon and is what gives the fish its pinkish color. A good quality product is made from microalgae, and no animals or fish are harmed, making it a vegan antioxidant. No idea what the source is for this product as it's not stated. As an antioxidant, astaxanthin is said to have many health benefits. It’s been linked to healthier skin, endurance, heart health, joint pain, and may even have a future in cancer treatment. I am personally using it for greater recovery after exercise, this being one of its well-known benefits. This is the first time I've taken this type of product, so time will tell how effective it is. If all the reports, research and medical hype is to be believed it will be a powerhouse for healing and wellness.

Used to make Pannetoone
The natural yellow colouring in these capsules elevates an enriched dough such as Brioche or Panettone. A small amount goes a long way.
