This book is more about the story behind the works than a means to view the work. This book is sold at the gallery as a reference to refer to while you're walking around the gallery. If you're purpose is to just view the works, there are other large format books that serve that purpose.

Although the narratives can vary regarding the degree to which the history of a particular piece vs its content are discussed, most of the descriptions provide at least some minimal info on each, making this book an invaluable guide both as a "carry-along" when you visit the museum as well as a general "visitless" introduction to the artwork. If you're planning on visiting the museum, you should be aware, however, that the pieces included in this book by no means represent the museum's entire collection - though, the museum does make available alternative media.

315 illustrations de bonne qualité rendent compte de la richesse de ce musée américain, équivalent à nos grandes collections européennes. Des tableaux, parfois très célèbres, fierté de nos grands maîtres européens. Ici, pas de prises de guerre ni de collections royales, mais des dons et des acquisitions grâce au mécénat (encouragés fiscalement). Une œuvre par page, avec le commentaire. Attention, le texte est en anglais. Mais je n’ai pas trouvé d’équivalent en français.
