Sew Classic Clothes for Girls: 20 Girls' Dresses, Outfits and Accessories from the Cottage Mama Paperback – October 31, 2013

This book is Fabulous! Lindsay Wilkes has a way with putting together information, patterns and fabrics to show you how to create beautiful, timeless dresses and clothes for girls! I purchased this book to learn to sew the Sweet Dress and it turned out beautifully the first time, with no issues! Cannot recommend this book highly enough! Gorgeous photos, easy to follow directions, excellent ideas for add on embellishments and fabric choices, and the included CD with patterns are all wonderfully done!***********I reviewed the book back when I first bought it. I gave it a wonderful review, as it is a wonderful book. All those negative comments should have used a little creativity and mashed up some of the different design styles and would have gotten completely different results. Some people just want a book to tell them every little thing instead of using it what it is really for, which is inspiration, details, and of course, the wonderfully done patterns!

I have sewed for many years but am mainly a quilter. I have followed the author's blog for awhile now and have wanted to try her patterns for my little granddaughters. I knew when the book came out I had to have it! It was worth every penny. The book comes with explicit directions and lovely photographs along with a CD of the patterns that are printed off. The patterns are to scale, but you need to cut them out and tape them together, but you have them forever and can print them off again and again. These are easy to sew clothes, which for me is just perfect! The clothes are very classic and timeless. From the little smock top to the ruffle capris (I knew them as pedal pushers!) these are darling clothes to sew for your special little girl!

I love Lindsay's techniques and encouragement in using different embellishments and fabrics. The tutorials are great, as well.While I haven't made any dresses out of the book yet, I have made a different pattern of hers and it was very easy to follow. Reading through the instructions in this book, I feel that they'll also be the same.I've been sewing for 40 years, and would consider myself an intermediate sewer.

This book is full of beautiful patterns based on classic styles that I wore as a girl. The patterns allow me to sew with vintage style fabrics or mixed it up with modern colorful fabrics. Since I love colorful and coordinating fabrics, this was a perfect book for me. The author presents several techniques to efficiently complete the garment while keeping the inside of the garment almost as beautiful as the outside. I have worked about half of the patterns in the book now, and can appreciate that many of the pattern pieces are interchangeable between the garments. This book is amazing. I love Lindsday's style and was looking forward to learning from her how to sew the beautiful clothes she designs. And this book does not fail to please. The styles are classic and modern at the same time. They are perfect for today's little girl who wants to dress girly but also wants to be wearing pretty fabrics. Lindsay has a meticulous eye for details and the book gives wonderful instructions for how to see the embellishments and features. The pictures are amazing and it is well written and the directions are clear. You get lots of help for each pattern. It is like having Lindsay in the room with you.This is a classic book. It will not disappoint.

They should include the physical patterns in a pocket in the back like other sewing books do. It's one thing for a small designer on etsy or a blogger to use pdf patterns, but since I'm buying the physical book anyway it's beyond annoying to have to spend all that time printing and piecing together 28 pages for one simple dress. It makes me less likely to actually make the clothes in it.Aside from that, the patterns are pretty cute. Different from what I already have, which is why I bought the book, but they are now at the bottom of my list because of the pdf patterns. There are several dresses I'd like to eventually try as well as the coat.

I took a class with Lindsay Wilkes at a sewing school and was very pleased with her teaching style, instructions, and quality of patterns. The book is an excellent extension of that experience. The only reason I gave 4 rather than 5 stars is that it takes quite a while to print and assemble pattern pieces from the CD. That may not be truly fair as there really isn't any other way to effectively supply the pattern pieces for home printing, so don't let this comment deter you from enjoying the book and making the precious, and current style clothing for your child. Just allot plenty of time for this initial step.

It arrived earlier than expected.Very nice book ! Better than I expected and I totally recommend it to anyone interested in little dresses.Thank you !

I pre-order this book after sewing a couple of the Cottage Mama patterns - I was so happy when I got the book earlier in December. I was specially capture by Lindsay's attention to details and her unique fabric combinations - she's truly a master in mixing notions, prints and trims. I love sewing for my daughter (currently I sew most of her wardrobe and blog about it) and although my sewing style is a bit different from Lindsay's I love the fact that her designs are so perfect and can be adapted to several sewing styles. The book has very comprehensive information and each pattern includes information for customization - Lindsay loves and has a great eye for adding embellishments to a pattern, although you could always skip that step if that's not really your style and still achieve a great outcome. Having sewed several of the Cottage Mama to date I already have a few patterns I need/want to try from this book - you could really get a lot from the patterns included and, in my opinion, this book is truly a useful book for any seamstress library (and one that I know I'll be using a lot).
