Counting Creatures

Such a lovely counting book. It has gorgeous artwork and it is fun to lift flaps to reveal baby animals.

We initially checked this out from the library. We love the rhyming, humorous Julia Donaldson & Axel Sheffler books, and I was looking for other books by Julia Donaldson. This one has a different artist, and I was struck by how beautiful the artwork is. My 3-year-old loves the flaps, which are different shapes and open in different directions on each page. They are delicate compared to board book flaps, so this book is better suited to a toddler who can be gentle, rather than a younger baby. I can see this being a keepsake book to hand down to future generations or to gift to expectant parents or for a toddler's birthday. The price on Amazon was unexpectedly low, too.

I bought this book for my 19 month old nephew for Christmas. He's "into owls" and his five year old brother is obsessed with counting and math and can help him count, so I though this would be perfect for him.It just arrived, and this book is so cute, I squealed with glee! Each page has a flap that lifts up to reveal the baby animals. The images are beautiful, artistic, and colorful. I don't know if he will enjoy this book, but I sure do like the pictures! I just noticed all the pictures I took are mainly blue (probably subconsciously drawn to my favorite color), but there are indeed pages that are a vibrant green, red, orange, and yellow as well!The pages seem pretty sturdy, but I'm guessing they would rip if the person (big or little) handling them is not careful. My nephew tends to handle things he knows are fragile carefully, so hopefully he will be gentle with this book as well. (I just wish I could read it to him at Christmas time, but we are still keeping visits to a minimum, wearing masks, and keeping 6 ft away, so it might be awhile longer before I get that chance.)I'm so happy I got this book for him.

This book is gorgeous. And because it's Julia Donaldson it's so well written. My 1 year old loves it too. I store it away from where she can get it because I don't want her ripping it up.

Love the illustrations and cutouts, great book! And it's fun trying to spot all the spiders on each page!

I got this book for my daycare and the kids love it!!!The illustrations are so beautiful!And the kids LOVE the flaps!!!They also love counting all of the creatures!!!A great way to learn!!!

My son absolutely LOVES this book, maybe as much as I do- lol! The artwork is second to none; bright, vibrant, interesting and unique. The pages hide the baby creatures behind beautifully cut and illustrated paper. There are also little surprise creatures (don’t want to spoil it) that, once you get to the end, you can go through the entire book and count. It’s definitely a good purchase and keeps even the most active children interested and excited.

i got this book to introduce counting for my 15 month old toddler. but we forgot all about it as we opened it because the illustrations will make you spellbound. the carefully hidden flaps are a delight. i have fallen in love with this book. my baby finds it fascinating too. it has been sitting on our shelf for more than 3 weeks now. i can se we will get to the counting bit soon but for now, we are simply soaking in the beautiful pictures in this book. it will make a good coffee table book too once my toddler grows out of it coz its simply stunning.

Absolutely stunning pictures, lovely book. Great to read with my three year old!
