Durable. Age to buy depends on individual
We've had this kart for 2 years now. It is still running great. I got it for my then 9year old boy. Awesome Christmas surprise! He is 11 now and still enjoys it and uses it although at this point he wishes it were faster. No worries, however, little brother at 6 years old loves it and it is plenty fast for him. He is young and I have to remind him not to show off or get crazy with his driving. So far so good. This is where parent discretion is advised. We have lots of boys in the neighborhood, a neighbor (8yrs old) who had ridden the cart a few times before suddenly crashed straight into the curb at top speed. I was there watching and he wasnt "driving crazy" or anything.. he bent the front wheel bar (husband fixed) and the boy got some scratches. He hasn't wanted to ride it again-I'm ok with that. While not super fast, it is fast enough for trouble, low profile enough to drive under parked trucks and smash heads ( hasn't happened here but I saw the potential). Also the low profile and muted colored flag makes it hard to be seen by cars. Driver error can happen no matter what the age of the kid. If your kid is crash prone or a distracted type, or a stunt show-off, injuries are going to happen. If your kid is a high powered driver of all things motorized with some sense of self preservation- this kart is perfect for ages 5-9. After that your tween will want something faster. NOTE: The kart does not drive at all on grass and is uncomfortable over large cracks or uneven ledges in sidewalks. It does not climb inclined slopes either. Storage below freezing= dead battery. But we still love and recommend it. Fun on smooth paths and cul de sac play. Easy to drive. I'm 5'3" 125lbs and I can drive it- although it's slower with me on it.

This go-kart is awesome. Battery lasts forever.
I bought this car for my two kids, 6 and 9 years old. And they can't stop using it. First things first. The car comes almost completely assembled in a flat box. You need to attach the steering wheel using the allen keys provided, and also attach the seat to the car. 5 minutes tops. A fully assembled car looks much better than a cardboard box that they can't open. The battery of the car comes precharged. We did not know, so we set it to charge and wait the 12 to 18 hours specified in the instruction manual. 30 minutes later the charger has turned green because the battery is full again. Reviewers say that you should get 40 minutes of playing time. We got two straight hours of zipping around cones, speeding and tracking their times around the cones. 5 kids took turns for two full hours. We seem to have lots of friends in the neighborhood :) We set it to charge at 10am because I needed some rest, and at 1PM they are zipping out again, around cones, trying to do 180 degrees turns at full speed. And with 3 inches of clearance, 8 mph feels like 80. Ever since has been charging every night and we haven't had a dull moment in the afternoon. Pros: Battery life, sturdy construction, ease of use. Seatbelt. Cons: Brakes could be more precise and powerful, but the silver lining is that the kids are learning to anticipate their actions. And if you think they are not exercising while zipping around cones, I dare you to try it not using your abs and arms. You can't.

Good stuff
I just picked this up for my 8 year old boy (his birthday). It was a major hit - solid, fast and fun. This go-kart is an 8 year olds dream come true. The only thing you really need to know is that it is low to the ground and needs to be on asphalt. I wouldn't even consider buying this if you don't live on a dead end street, a cul-de-sac or very near a park, because it is hard for cars to see. Adult supervision is a requirement if there's any chance of a car coming becuase you child will be having too much fun to pay attention to traffic. Aside from that, the Kart is worth the price - easy to put together (took 3 minutes), much faster than the electric scooter (stand up variety) that my boy already had - it definately goes 12-15 mph. It's also very solid. If traffic is not a problem, buy this. Your child will love it (and you'll be jealous that these didn't exist when you were a kid). ****UPDATE***** - my boy is now 10 and still loves this thing - we had to replace the batteries for $70, but who cares, the go-kart is still the best toy in the neighborhood - AND we got two years and about a million miles out of the last batteries. Dad's - buy this thing, I'm telling you.....

RAZOR GROUND FORCE GO CART
Bought this for my 7 year old grandson. Unfortunatly it sat in the box for 60 days after I recieved it before my grandson came to visit. We assembled the go cart and he could hardly wait to get on and ride it. Well he road it up and down my driveway for a solid 20 minutes then put it on the charger while we had lunch. One hour later we returned for another round of fun, NOT!. The cart would do nothing when the throttle was depressed. We put it back on the charger for another hour and the green light came on. "Grampy it's ready to go" he screamed out. Well still no response from the throttle, just a clicking sound from under the battery cover. After and hour on the manufactures web site we finally found our clicking problem listed (what a supprise) along with about 4 possiable fixes. Grampy do you think you can fix it? Will I be able to ride it agian before I go home? After one hour of dismantling and diagnosing all the electrical components I disconnected the connector for the brake switch and WA-LA it ran again. This happened on a Saturday, no one to call at Amazon or the manufacturer so we were on our own. It seems I am still on my own, as the return period has passed and the manufacture wants $30.00 plus shipping for a new part for the "new go cart" that lasted 20 minutes and I have to install the part. Piece of crap, should have bought one local and paid a bit more & have some good customer service. Don't buy a RAZOR from Amazon, buy local.
