High quality materials and workmanship...not a lot of forethought on purpose.
So...I really like what the holster is made of. The leather is soft, even supple. Seriously. Very good quality. I know my skins. This stuff is great. The revolver stays in the holster, too. Breaking it in was a breeze. The belt clip? Extremely sturdy. Spring steel really hangs on. A draw even not fully broken in? Still kept it On my jeans waistband. It retains the weapon snugly. Very snugly. The main issue with the holster is that they designed the belt clip on it like they would an outside the waistband, dedicated belt carry holster. As if they took a belt holster and just decided to reverse it, and assume that design would work well for concealment. It doesn’t. It retains the weapon excellently. It is very difficult to conceal with due to gravity and weight of the weapon.A Ruger Sp101 in .357 magnum is a full steel, heavyweight revolver. To conceal properly, the clip must be mounted much higher on the holster so that gravity doesn’t tug the gun out and away from your body. For a polymer gun that weighs nothing? This would be perfect like it is now. This isn’t a plastic gun. It’s the real deal. And it’s real heavy.Currently, when clipped over a belt (The most secure, intended option), I need both a super loose t shirt and a hoodie/windbreaker/button-down shirt worn open to properly conceal with this holster. I also need a very sturdy belt, but that’s mostly due to weapon weight, not the holster. It’s currently 107 degrees in OH this week that I wrote this. Not an option, all that clothing. So...this holster is sitting on top of my locker currently not in use. I’m using my sticky holster MD-5 instead.I can’t properly tuck this deep over a belt without a cover garment like intended because the belt clip is mounted too low on the leather. I’m 5’8” and 200 lbs, I’m no skinny lady. I’m a big girl and my love handles tend to conceal revolver grips quite well, being frank. If the gun sinks low enough. I’ve been carrying for almost 2 years now, and I can make a revolver disappear given the right outfit and holster setup. I’m still struggling to make this one do what I’m accustomed to.I tried tucking it in the waistband without clipping it over a belt; the gun sags down and away from my body and slides out of place, even with a gun belt tightly stretched over the clip. Mostly because the clip is mounted too low on the leather. It causes an issue with gravity and balance. It doesn’t sit proper and doesn’t stay in place well. Conceals better, but shifts too much. The old Galco Stow-N-Go I have from a Charter Arms I used to own? Sinks the SP101 nice and deep into my waistband, and holds it just right. The belt clip is mounted near the very tip-top of the leather, which is what a heavyweight revolver holster should be designed as for concealment IWB.Long story short: Great materials. Highly durable! NOT easily concealable without extra work. Which defeats the purpose somewhat. I wish it offered more versatility. Competitive options are available for half the price. If I get some positive dialogue with the seller I’ll be sure to update this accordingly.

Perfect in every way!!
This is an exquisitely made holster. One immediately appreciates the top grade hide and super strong stitching. Handsomely crafted with a beautiful edge taper that reduces “printing” when carrying concealed. I’ve not purchased from 1791 before, but I can tell that I most certainly will be purchasing all my holsters from them from now on. They’re prices are also very competitive.

Great price great quality
I bought this a couple months ago for my ruger sp101. The holster fits perfect, and is very good quality. 1791 even added a little leather key chain with mine.Personal preference is a big part of holsters, I usually prefer holsters with belt loops over clips. In this case I made an exception. I generally only use this gun/holster on quick errands the clip allows quick use when I sometimes not taken the time to put on another holster.I use this as an appendix holster and it is very comfortable and conceals well. I would recommend it is used with a 1.5 inch wide belt that is sturdy. I use the magpul Tejas.

Good quality but difficult to reholster
First off I know guns and holsters are like Goldilocks. Some are too this, and some too that, and others are just right.1791 gunleather holster is a well made holster, but for me and the S&W model 642; it isn't just right. The widest part (cylinder) of the 642 is right at 1 1/4 inches. With the 642 in the holster, the width of both is just under 2 inches. Here is my issue. I usually wear a 35 waist jeans. In order to get a comfortable fit I had to use an old pair of 36 waist jeans. (Glad I keep them.) The holster retained well and the gun drew easily, however; once the gun was drawn it was very difficult to reholster. The cyclinder hangs up and I have to use my thumb to spread the holster to reholster. I do intend to keep the holster as it held my Glock 23 quite nicely.Again just thought I would add my experience and while not so much knocking the product, it just wasn't quite right for me.

1791 Gunleather holsters: Built to last!
Holster was purchased to replace a well worn one for a Smith and Wesson 5 shot J frame 9 mm pistol. It is well made with heavy duty stitching and a sturdy clip to secure it on your belt or pants. The leather is very supple and readily adapts to the shape of of the gun while retaining it for good retention. Comfortable and good looking it is the best holster I have ever owned in the 40 years of concealed carry. 1791 Gunleather’s products exude quality at a reasonable price as evidenced by buyers favorable reviews.

Excellent holster for the price
The leather is high quality, the break in was fast and clean. The retention for my S&W J Frame 642, is solid. Great for concealed carry.

Make sure it is specific for your firearm, not a do all . . .!!
Number one, the holster did not fit my firearm. The area of leather which holds the clip is so thick, it hindered the cylinder of the firearm from seating properly. There was no way it was going to seat him a good way. Number two, the leather is way too soft and pliable for any retention, and reholstering is a problem as well. I've given up on finding any holster on Amazon, and will just fork up the extra money to get a custom holster. The 1791 Holster is a beautiful looking, appealing holster, but is not practical at all for my needs.

Great Little Holster for LCR 9mm !
First, let me preface by saying this is my first IWB holster. Additionally, I have only had this holster a few days. Upon receipt, I followed the instructions for fitting it to my LCR 9. I placed the LCR in a plastic bag, inserted it into the holster snuggly, and left it for ~12 hours. Still felt a bit tight to me so I placed a second bag around the weapon and let it sit. I should also mention a treated the outside of the holster with leather conditioner. The holster now fits perfectly and I expect to get good use out of it. Nice holster for a reasonable price!
