Q: When you sharpen on the left side the belt will move against the blade edge and not with it, like usual honing. Does it not cut into the belt?

This belt was not specific made for the Ken Onion machine. The belt is too thick for the machine. You are correct, the knife can cut into the belt if you're not careful. I preferred to use the Ken Onion without the sharpening angle guide when struping. I generally strup away from the knife edge and never into it. With the guide remove, u can pull your knife from left to right and right to left going away from your blade edge, trying maintain the edge angle. Keeping in mind the machine is pulling downward with your blade edge pulling away and not into. Be careful!!!! Practice very slowly at first.

Hi Glenn, you shouldn't have any problems with the diamond pastes, assuming they are high grit (or low micron) and wouldn't be too coarse on the belts. Let us know how it goes!

Q: are you supposed to cut away the tube that the compound is in?

Cut away the tube? Umm don’t quite the question. Before using the strip load it up first with a bar of soap for ease of compound loading. One the soap is on load it up full with the compound then get to stropping!
