11 .177 Dewey Pistol Rod & Jag

Would’ve gave it five stars because it’s a Dewey guality. Just not happy because it arrived poorly packaged and bent. The other dewey rod I ordered can packaged and around cardboard tube in excellent condition. Somebody needs to correct their shipping quality . I could’ve sent it back but didn’t want to go through the hassle. It was tough giving it only three stars.

I didn't know what to expect after buying this gun cleaning rod.But upon initial inspection, I found this American made rod to be well designed and first-rate in manufacturing. There is nothing cheap about it.I could see that no corners were cut in its design or it manufacture.This rod will last a lifetime or more.The handle is attached to the rod in such a way that wear from the handle swiveling will probably be non-existent.The rod is coated so that it will not cause any wear or damage to the muzzle of the barrel. I don't know what the coating is but it is as thin as it appears to be tough.The brass jag is something to behold. This is not a cast but it is a jag that was machined on a mill or a lathe. All the edges are well defined and, with a 1" round felt patch, it feels to be of the perfect size for running down the bore. It cleans very well.Packaging was also good.The end of the threaded rod has a protective plastic cover. The jag was packaged separately in order to protect it.In closing, I want ot say that I would like to see more products that were designed and made so well. this one stands up to the reputation of Made In America.

This Rod is supposed to include a .177 Dewey jag, which is about 20% of the price paid, but it was missing. Otherwise a very good cleaning rod.

Dewey Rods are well made and safe for your firearms. This one has a Teflon or nylon coating as a layer of protection in your barrel. Because of its diameter, most brushes, jags, mops and etc. will not fit. You will need to order Dewey's 17A Adapter to convert the rods 5-40 threads to standard 8-32.So, why not just by a .22 caliber rod that is already threaded 8-32? Simply because while the larger diameter rod will go through a .22 caliber barrel, you will probably scrape some of the coating off which will then fall into the action. Not a good thing. For this reason the .177 diameter rod is perfect for cleaning your .22 caliber hand gun.These are available in several lengths. I find the 11" version works well with longer barreled guns and allows the cleaning rod to be used from the chamber end (you should always avoid cleaning from the muzzle end if at all possible). This length works well with the Ruger Mark III's with the six inch barrel.No matter whether you are cleaning a rifle or a pistol, you want a one piece rod. Don't wait until you break that cheap sectional rod off in the barrel of a favorite gun.Oh, and last but not least! Always make sure your firearm is unloaded before you start to clean it.Good firearms deserve good tools to keep them working for a lifetime.

Turned out to be the perfect cleaning rod for .22 LR Pistols, allows for a larger patch and is stiff enough for the job.
