Dyslexic writer, stand up comic,
It seems that every screw-up imaginable happened to Jeff Nichols as he stormed through his growing years. He writes with frank self-accusation, and yet with such deft comedic sense, that though shocked, you often laugh out loud at the rowdy account of his outrageous trail. "TRAINWRECK, My Life As An IDOIT", (Simon and Schuster.)A waspy kid of privilege, afflicted with dyslexia, ADD, learning disability, and with more than a touch of Tourette's syndrome, becomes an early alcohol and drug abuser, flunks every test, gets bounced from private school, bums money from his parents, and seems to be a permanent loser, powerless to change, "Trainwreck" is an irreverent, and often brilliant tale of overcoming, written from the inside out, by one who has lived it. Nichols has recovered his life, has a career as both stand-up comic and writer ... and is a charter-fishing boat Captain. "Trainwreck" has been made into a major motion picture. The book is better.

DSisgusting and crude
I saw this movie and thought the book would be funny. But it is the ramblings of a spoiled man who has no morals. He blames his learning disabilities on his behavior but reading his accounts there is no proof this was the reason for his behavior. His actions are disgusting and crude, no respect for others.

Gave me hope I will one day get my driver's back
Gave me hope I could get my suspended drivers license back, not to mention returning the library books I borrowed 3 years ago.I bought this book because it was reviewed well by ADDiitude magazine. I'm glad I did and gave it to my brother because his life is also a train wreck

A by product of American ignorance
I gave this 5 stars because it is such a candid, straightforward account of a man's almost tortured existence in modern urban America. There is no excuse for our citizens to have the experiences this man had to endure. Society let him down, as it does so many others just like him. It hurts my soul to read this book and know that ihis life didn't have to be this way.

And I thought my life was a mess...
This book is hilarious! Not for the timid or bashful. Jeff's honest recounting of his life will cause others to reflect on their own past. I felt so good about my life after reading this, I bought two more copies!I can only imagine what a nightmare it was for his editor and copy-reader to decipher his dyslexic manuscript. I admire Jeff for his ability to stay sober for so many years, working in the entertainment business. Buy a copy - it's funny.Mark A. Tuschel - Author: Living Sober Sucks (but living drunk sucks more). Living Sober Sucks! (but living drunk sucks more)

Honest, hilarious, and Hopeful
It's the quickest read I ever read. Makes me want to fish, and I hate fishing. Finally some honest and fair criticism of AA. Read this book because the movie was great. But the book is amazing and the author gives his email address out, and actually writes back. Wish I knew this guy in real life. I might have to book a fishing trip with him.
