Excellent Small Office / Home Office Printer & Scanner
Have had this printer for a little over 2 years and it has proven to be an excellent investment. I use this for both letter and ledger size paper, to print documents and technical drawings in B&W and color as well as to scan. I have not used the fax feature at all.Printing. Prints Word, Excel, etc, quite quickly. Can duplex from either tray, as well as print booklets automatically. Paper jams are rare, but when they do occur have been easy to clear. Color printing is fine for business needs - some have complained about color density but this has never been an issue for me. Have not tried printing photos on this machine, but that is not what it is primarily designed for anyway.Scanning. The automatic document feeder can handle letter and ledger paper, and can scan double sided documents. I have never had a paper jam in the ADF and have probably run well over 1000 pages through it. The Control Center software is easy to use - scans can be started from the PC using it, or from the machine using the front control panel. Works flawlessly with my network, saving scans directly to my NAS or to an attached PC.Pros: dual trays, allowing both letter and ledger paper to be available at all times. Manual feed slot for printing checks, envelopes, or other one-off jobs. High capacity printer ink cartridges mean that I don't have to change them frequently. Built in wireless and Ethernet connectivity - I use wireless with no issues. Just a great work horse.Cons: manual feed allows only one sheet at a time. Minor issue for me. Can be slow to print complex drawings - seems to be an issue with either onboard memory or processing speed, but it does print. For example: a single 11x17 drawing where the file size is 20 MB can take a couple of minutes to print, after the PC has finished sending it. Note that for most printing (Word, Excel, etc) it is quick to start and spits the pages out fast enough.Support. Brother warranty (3 years) is outstanding and their technical support has been excellent. Recently had a problem where the printer reported a paper jam and there was no way I could clear it. Tried all the options in the manuals. When the printer powered on it made a strange sound that appeared to come from the rear. Got on to Brother technical support (chat) and then they called me - worked through some troubleshooting steps, then they said they would send me a new one under warranty. Arrived 2 days later and back up and running. Things fail now and then and this is the only problem I have had. If it had not still been under warranty I would have paid to have it repaired, or happily bought a new one.Bottom line: if you want a reliable printer for documents and need to print in different sizes frequently, this is an excellent choice. Add to that the scanning capabilities, copy and fax modes and you have a very versatile and office-friendly multi-function center.

Hard to Say at this point
It is harder to set up than I anticipated, and you definitely need the manuals to figure out how to use it. I must admit I haven't given it much attention yet. But there are two things that are so far disappointing. I purchased the extra tray with the hope that I could leave envelopes in one and paper in the other, and that doesn't seem to have worked out well, so far; the other is that at least it does not seem simple if it is possible to scan to pdf....looks like the only formats available are for images...jpg, bitmap, etc. I will update after I have given it more attention, but it is for sure not a plug in and use sort of device.

Not worth it for business
I bought this printer to try to replace the various and sundry machines cluttering up the office. To be frank, it doesn't work. The scanning and copying functions are fine, however, do not expect this to print on a consistent basis. I sent a brochure to the printer, it printed 5 pages (duplex) then crashed. It may have been that I sent too much data for it, in which case the printer is even more useless than I thought. I have been waiting for it to shut down for an hour now so I can actually use it for copies. The quality of the printed material that did come out was exceedingly poor.Other major issues: It will not duplex print on anything other than plain paper which is a huge disadvantage if you are trying to put together any type of promotional materials. You cannot use the paper feed with more than one sheet of paper at a time, and every sheet that goes in the paper feed is aligned in a different way--some came through crooked. When it does print at times it has taken over a half an hour to start. It does not detect your sheet size, so you have to tell it you have an 11 x 17 on the platen or waste a bunch of paper. Basically, it doesn't do what I primarily bought it for.

Great printer, served all my needs.
Bought this printer as a studio companion in architecture school where we are constantly printing images for reference, to pin up, or trace. 11x17 was a necessity and this had that capability, which served all my needs. The ability to scan 11x17 is also a great feature! My one complaint is that the print quality only goes so high, though i have not tried printing on high grade/ gloss/ or other photo papers. This is not an issue though, because I did not purchase this printer with high quality printing in mind. It was a work horse.I ran about a pack of paper through both trays, one letter and one ledger, a mix of black and white and color. I did not have but one jam.the included ink ran out very fast. Bringing me to the next best thing about this printer. you can buy generic ink cartridges here on amazon for dirt cheap and they work flawlessly. I purchased, for about $8 a pack of two extended size black along with 2 of each color (that is incredible). I was skeptical at first, but the printer accepted them with no problem and there was no visible difference in print quality. The printer still reads the level, and the cartridge is clear so you can visibly inspect the ink level. these have lasted much longer and have yet to run out.The fact that I was able to get the ink so cheap justified this printer, allowing me to drastically beat the price per print of the architecture library at my university. Also the convenience of having a printer on demand at any hour of the day was invaluable.

Brother MFCJ6710DW Multi-function Printer
This printer is cost effective since it handles paper up to 11"x17" and so does the scanner. It can print on both sides and accepts manual feed for special paper and or forms. The status of the ink cartridges is also displayed on your computer and on the printer's own display. This multi-function printer also works while connected with a printer cable or in wireless mode. The paper tray is a good size so that refilling intervals are reasonable. To perform the setup, use the DVD that comes with it and also log onto the Brother web site to complete the installation.

Have not had it long, so far very good
Nice compact size considering the paper size handled. Easy set up, all functions that I have tried have worked. The only thing I could criticize would be the position of the manual paper feed, otherwise I am very satisfied so far. Very reasonable price and fast shipping through Amazon.
