Cheap, rugged, and my son loves them.
I ordered these 10 months ago, size 3-9/large for my son (10 yrs old at the time). They soon became his favorite socks. He wore shoe size 5 youth/big kids when we got them, and he's grown to size 6 (maybe a bit over), and they are still his favorite. They have held up -- no holes or anything after 10 months, just a little tan coloring at the soles. Though to be honest he's not really into sports, so if your kid is out playing ball hours every day, then I cannot promise they'll last as well for you.Anyway, he's kind of fussy about his feet and socks. Like, his mother had bought him thinner dress type socks when he was a toddler / little kid, and then I could not get him to wear normal athletic socks till I bought these. So basically they fit right, they are very comfortable (according to my son) and they have held up for nearly a year with just a bit of discoloration on the soles, and at around $1.50 per pair, that seems like it warrants five stars.I'm about to re-order another six-pack for him, hopefully they have not changed them. It seems like when you find a good product that is reasonably priced, it goes downhill in future generations of the same product. I sure hope that has not happened here.If I had to say anything negative about the socks it is that they are made by a huge corporation with all the negatives that might entail. In other words, it would sure be nice if these were made in the USA from certified organic cotton that was sustainably grown without use of harmful pesticides (or made form recycled cotton, if such a thing exists?) I'd pay significantly more for products that help safeguard a healthy future world. However, I tried to buy both socks and underwear from a variety of companies that promoted themselves as that type of business, boutique clothing makers using high end organic stuff, ethically produced, and it always sucked. It is always two size two small (as if they have to save a few pennies by using less material for each item, even though they are charging a premium). I felt like the companies promoting themselves with stuff like, "we hand make every pair from the finest organic cotton blah blah" were just using that as a racket to package socks that they really had made by whatever third world manufacturer would do it cheapest. And even if these companies were following all these idealistic practices, who cares if the end product still sucks?! Anyway, I got fed up, and came back to Hanes. It's sad because I really would have kept paying a lot more to support sustainable, ethical practices in the clothing industry if they simply made a good product. I should be easy, but it is not. It is kind of like the "amazon effect" on some products, where the new business model is to make something as cheap as possible, like insanely cheap even if it will fall apart in two seconds, just so you can throw it up for sale on Amazon, pay some unethical hackers in India to put up a thousand phony 5 star reviews, and then sell 50 thousand before the resulting negative reviews start to bring down the overall rating to the point you cannot sell any more, then you simply re-brand the product and repeat the process (I'm looking at you, earbuds...). In my experience the high end / boutique clothing on Amazon could be following a similar business model, where they actually make crap, pay for phony positive reviews, and try to make their money before the real consumers put up enough real reviews so that people get wise and stop buying the product. You know that feeling when you decide you do not want to mess around with a possible substandard product, so you actually pay a premium to get a product from a high end boutique thinking that will get you quality for sure, and the resulting product is actually worse than just a normal, every day product you are used to buying? Okay, enough with the rant. Good socks, possibly made by an evil corporation.

They actually do run true to size
Reading all the reviews made me think that the socks run WAY small. My son is 4 years old, and wears a shoe size 12. Most socks for his age run too small. So I didn't want to risk it, ordered the large size (thinking they run too small).. But they really were large. They fit me perfectly (my shoe size is a women's 7 1/2) I think the medium would be perfect for my 4 year old. But the size small socks are a toddler size, not a "big boys" size (4 1/2- 8 1/2), maybe that's why some are confused. The quality is pretty good, they are 77% cotton and 18% polyester.

Very comfortable & soft
I wear a women's size 5 shoe and the socks are boys size 3-9. A three in boys is like a shoe size of 5 in women's. There were a little big at first until washed and dried in the dryer. Now they fit just fine.

Wrong size-- Grandson's fault not Hanes! 😀
5 stars because these are Good sturdy socks-- comfortable and wear well. But should be 3 stars because they don't fit. Usually these are true to size and probably still are -- but my grandson's feet apparently grew TWO sizes over night! Have a smaller grandson who will wear them so the rating goes back up to 5 stars! My fault not Hanes! 😀

Fits as expected on a child that wears size 2 shoe
My son is nearly 8 yrs old and wears a size 2 shoe on the brink of size 3. I expected these socks to be a little big for him but they actually fit perfectly. If your child wears a shoe size larger than size 4 these socks might be a little small. Great value at $8.50 with free prime shipping.

too small...did they change the size?
I ordered size large for my large footed 11 year old. He wears size 7 shoes and these are a bit too small. This is a surprise because we've bought about 6 packages of these very same socks and they fit fine (and no, his foot size didn't change.)We've been buying these Hanes socks for ages. My boys go through socks like crazy. These aren't super durable but they are cheap, so we just keep replacing them as necessary when they wear through them. They stay up and the boys say they are comfy. My favorite feature is actually that each different size has different color writing on the toes. Why does this matter? Well I have different kids with different sizes, and it makes it much easier to match the socks up when they come out of the laundry.

High cotton content, good quality
Bought this for a 3rd grade boy who wears youth size 4.5 shoes. Fits him well--snug enough not to shift around during high activity, but not too snug that it is uncomfortable. I think there is enough stretch that it will fit him when he grows few more sizes (and at that point, I'm sure the socks will be worn enough to be replaced). high cotton content, and is soft and well-cushioned.
