This was a close runner for a 5 star review, I would say 4.5. There are a few similar thermometers on the market they look the same but are not. These products appear to also be hit and miss with some folks. I did receive this product at a discount for an honest review, so below are the pros & cons!PROS:- Lightweight and simple to use- Auto on when you open it, This is a nice battery saving feature Auto off, as well as turning off when you close it.- Fast compared to the other ones on the market, about 4-6 seconds.- Big easy to read displayCONS:- No backlight- Does not include AAA battery- Defaults to Celsius every time.- Feels a little cheap and flimsy. (but we're in that age right now)- Locks in a little tighter than expected (although I see the plastic clip wearing overtime and loosing up.)Overall if you don't have the $100 to invest in a thermapen, this is a steal at $20

There has been limited use of the product to date but when i used it my immediate observation is it’s a very handy and useful product to have if you cook a lot as we do. It read the food temp quickly. I like the product except for the difficulty of pulling the thermometer needle out of the base. You need to get something underneath the needle probe to pull it out. I use a knife to pry it out. That's a very poor design and a big inconvenience for the user. I was debating whether to rate this 3 or 4 stars. I thought about the readily apparent poor design. It's too much a negative to rate it a 4 so I rated it 3 stars.

I've carelessly gone thru a number of digital thermometers over the years so I have something to compare this to. I like it. It is fast and the hold button let's me just measure and then read from a distance. If I must be critical (the four vs. five stars) whenever it turns on it is automatically in degrees 'C' and needs to be adjusted to degrees 'F'. Just a nuisance. Good size, easy to read, A-Okay.

This was a great thermometer but the battery cover broke off and with the heat tape won't stay so it's a bust. Did last a few years prior to breaking.

I used the digital meat thermometer today for the first time and it performed very well. I had not changed from "C" to "F" so my pork tenderloin was overcooked just a little but that was no fault of the thermometer. I would recommend it; and, if need be, I would probably purchase another one in the future.

When turned on, it initiates in Celsius and you have to push the change to Farenheit button. Checked it's measurement in a roiling boil, it was off by one degree (213).

Temperature shows quickly. I wanted something that I did not have to wait for. Additional directions - put in the batteries, pull the probe out so that you see that it works. I assume you cannot leave this in the oven or BBQ but it does work quickly.

Had to send the first one back, did not work, even used newly opened batteries.The second one worked great. I am a chemist so I calibrated it with boiling distilled water.It was accurate to with in a degree F.Reads quite quickly.
